That was RAW and I haven't heard from him since the site went down last week. I think he said he was going to tie at High Country in Ogden and I think he said he was starting at 9:00am.
Maybe he left for the Holidays. He hasn't signed back on.

RAW is tying at High Country, on Harrison Blvd in Ogden on Jan 5th 9am to about noon. RAW is very inovative(sp) in his procedure and materials, it will be worth the time. Also Mike Day will tie the following Sat.

Do they do this every saturday?
Craig,
The demos used to be held every Saturday when the shop had its old owner. The new owner did away with them but is trying to bring them back. I think they are trying to have them every Saturday through the winter months. It is best to call the shop to make sure of what is scheduled.
We used to have a great group of fly fishers and tiers that showed up. Each tier shared their knowledge and skill freely. It was fun. Good relationships were formed.
Feel free to stop in this Saturday and say hi.

It's good to see you are still around. I think I may be down Saturday to get some expert help.

I think I might be up there Saturday as well. I might also try the Weber or Ogden in the afternoon for a couple hours while I'm up there. See you all then.

Don't forget.
I am looking forward to the new year and this will be a good way to start it. This past year for myself anyway will go down as the second worse in my lifetime what with the drought and low water, the heat of summer, and the tragedies of the bombings and the aftermath. There is more but I've spread enough gloom. Let's get 2001 behind us.
Looking forward to seeing Robert and the rest of you in Ogden.
Here's to a HAPPY NEW YEAR for all and a snagless 2002 !!!

.......A very good time was had by all who attended the demonstration at High Country to watch a very talented tier(RAW) tie some interesting woven body patterns. There was quite a few from UTOF there and it was good to put faces to the names and chat with you. I also met some nice folks who run High Country. Looks like a good place to stop by and get a cup of coffee.
Now if I can just get my fingers untangled from this mess........!

I'll second that! RAW did a great job and has come up with some excellent patterns. Also nice job on the book, I will definitly add it to my growing collection.
It was nice to meet everybody there and it will probably won't be the last time. Until next time, I'm headin back to the vise! Later, Bruce.

Ditto Bruce and Larry. RAW has some pretty unique and killer flies. Very inventive. Good use of different materials. Great match the hatch flies (which I like). Endless possibilities. I now have a new desire/passion to get on the vise and tie some new flies. Thanks RAW, I needed that.
FYI, RAW said his new book on woven body flies will be out in 2 weeks or so. I'm sure he'll keep us informed. It was good to finally meet Bruce and Larry in person, and of course RAW. TIE ON!
Thanks for the nice comments. You were great spectators. I still get very nervous tying in front of others. I sometimes come across, because of the nervousness, a little serious. I try to cover it up with a little dry humor. Nice to meet you all. You all seem like the kind of people I could share a stretch of river with, which is the highest compliment I could give.

That was a very interesting two hours. There were some very interesting concepts that I have already applied to my own patterns.
Thanks again

RAW, quick question. I went out and got me some cork board today. I got the 1/4 inch stuff, only a couple bucks for enough to last me forever. Do you use thicker cork board or stick with the 1/4 inch stuff, or maybe even thinner? Also, you mentioned that you use foam sometimes. When do you use foam instead of cork? What is the best material to use for the weaving? Zelon? Floss?
I know the there will be another tying demo this Saturday, who is it and what flies will he be tying? Anyone know? Thanks.
Jason,
The tier this weekend is Mike Day. He is a pro with hair style flies such as Humpies, Stimulators, Wulffs and such. He has taught me many neat tricks with handling hair and tying with it. Still can't handle hair as well as him.
I do use the 1/8-inch corkboard too. I try to weave with the polypropylene cord found in macromae cord. I pick this up at craft stores. Zelon would probably work too. The foam I use is the stiff stuff that Edgewater makes. I've picked it up at Anglers. Since I know the owner of Edgewater, he will sometimes sell me direct if I beg enough. I try to use rust and brown for the stones, pale yellow and tan for hoppers and black and orange for cicadas. On the cicada, I mark the belly in stripes with a black Sharpie permanent marker.
If you have other questions, please ask.

Your first post and you have been totally ignored for one whole day. Feel lucky, usually the regulars would have blasted you with comments like: "Dude, your first post on a fly fishing site and you are asking about crappie jigs?"
