I was up at Schofield this morning for the first time. On my way up, I noticed a river that parallels highway 6 just before the turnoff to the reservoir. I think it is called the White River. Anyone know about this piece of water? If you could e-mail me at mwest@btinc.com with any info I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

The White River is the river that runs along the highway just before you turn off to Schofield. I have been told that poor grazing practices (sheep and cattle, though I have it from a good source that there were no goats there Cheech) have caused a lot of damage to the banks. Whenever there is rain it causes a lot of silt to wash down making both it and the Price River quite murky. Because of that it isn't considered to be a great fishery. (That's what I've heard but maybe that is just a myth to keep non-locals from trying it out.)
There are three forks just upstream from where it joins the road. In its headwaters it is supposed to contain a pure strain of Colorado cutthroat. You may want to contact Castle Country Anglers 435-472-0103 for more info. They could tell you a lot more. I've heard they were trying to do some restoration work on it but thats only hear-say.
Sorry I can only report hear-say but since no one else responded with actual experience I thought it might be better than nothing!?
By the way, I didn't make it out after redfish when I was in Louisiana but I did get to eat some at a restaurant and if I were to fish for them I don't think I would release them! I did meet a guy who volunteered to take me out fishing on the bayou for goggle-eye, sockele, bass, catfish and brim. Of course I took him up on it. Quite an experience fishing with alligators swimming around you! Would have preferred the redfish but the schedule wouldn't allow it. Thanks for trying to hook me up with your friend. That state is a fisherman's dream. I couldn't believe all the fishable water and all the different species available. If I would have been there in May I would have gone out in the Gulf after some fast swimming fish. What a rush that would be - a fast swimming fish like a tuna on a fly rod.
If some guys wanted to go and experience some new fly fishing I would definitely be up for that trip. I've got a place we could stay

Trouty,
Hey, thanks for the info. I will be giving Castle County Anglers a call. I am glad to hear you had a good trip to Lousiana. Glad to hear that you made it back with all of your arms and legs. Nice gators down that way...I apologize that I could not hook you up in time with that Redfish info. Those fish are amazing fighters. If you get down that way again, please give me a call or e-mail me. I would be happy to get you the information on that guide I know of down there. If you are ever interested in hitting some of the local waters around here, let me know as well. Thanks again for the help.
Take care.

That river is too siltly to have any good fish in it. It takes a few miles going down Price Canyon before it clears enough. Down the canyon a ways there are a few browns, but it is tuff fishing. However the river that comes from under the Colton Bridge just before it joines with the White River is the Lower Fish Creek and is good fishing. You have to hike up a little ways but it is worth it. Plenty of good browns.
