For those of you interested i would like to do a fly swap for the logan and blacksmithfork. I would like to see what patterns other people like to use on blacksmiths fork and logan...
i will count the first 15 people in....
I will actually tie two flies because one is really simple but works wonders on both rivers.. A wd40 with a little variation
and a hopper that my grandpa invented, which isnt that great looking but it really gets the rises!
any questions email me jfrancis@cc.usu.edu
when we get everyone in i will set a date and email you my address and we will all have cool flys...
Thanks Derrick

time frame works for me. I'm debating between two different patterns, but probably going with a little modified chamois caddis pattern that I've had great success with on the Logan.

Since there are not many people wanting in on this swap how would you all feel about not letting anyone else in and tying two of your fav.. flies. that way we would all get about the same amount of flies, at least enough to make it interesting?
let me know if not we can just do one and not get so many flies.
anyways good luck with the fishin

chanceb
05-05-2003, 08:29 PM
I'm going with a modified chamois caddis pattern, and a bead-head hare's ear type pattern who's name I've forgotton. Saw it in Fly Fisherman magazine about 7 years ago. Works great on both rivers!

Have any of you fished in the Logan river this year? I'm interested in taking a trip up there and am wondering about the river level. Have you had much luck? What types of flys are working?

way to high to fish right now

Just wanted to apologize to all of you who were waiting for me. For some reason I stopped getting message notifications on this thread. I don't spend much time with this site, and I depend on those notifications to keep up with things since I am a bit of a flake anyway (although I don't normally drop out of things without telling people). Since I haven't checked the site since then, I had forgotten about things (my first swap, so I'm still not used to it).
Anyway, it is probably too little too late, but to redeem myself I'll be happy to send y'all some of the promised flies. Derrick, if it isn't too much trouble, would you send me the list? That way there won't be an additional postage for you.
Feel free to contact me directly (jason@virtuallyunique.com) for any requests or flames.
Again, sorry to have forgotten things.

jvswan
05-30-2003, 08:47 PM
Hi Derrick:
I can mail them, or bring them by, Monday at the latest (I'll tie them Saturday but may not get them to the post office in time). Or, if it would be more convenient, I can deliver them at the UTOF tying thing next Tuesday.
BTW, I'm still not consistently getting emails letting me know when there are posts to this thread (didn't know Derrick had responded, but happened to check), even though I am subscribed to it. So, if anyone wants to contact me, please contact me directly by email (jason@virtuallyunique.com).
Glad to hear I didn't totally miss the boat, since the flies haven't been sent out yet.
Thanks,
Jason

Still waiting on Jvswan he said he would drop them off to me, but i still havent seen them. So im sending them in the morning. I would send them today but working all damn day. Is anyone else frustrated by Jvswan thinking he has all the time in the world when we set deadlines? anyways sorry hope you dont think im procrastinating but i thought i would be nice and give him a chance..

Yup. I screwed up. You are right to be frustrated. Since you posted your frustration to the list, here is my reply to your recent email, for the list to read as well. Save me the time of writing another apology. For what it is worth...

Tell you what, Derrick. Please send me the list of recipients, and I'll be happy to mail them. Then you won't have to look bad. Feel free to blame it on me. As for the flies, I haven't had a chance to get them done. I apologize for volunteering for this, since I obviously wasn't able to walk up to my commitment. However, my fist suggestion last Friday was to send me the names so that I could send them out myself.
In any case, please stick a note in the boxes explaining that I screwed up the swap and send them out. Please don't wait for me. However, those people are expecting my flies, and I will send them. I do need the list, though.
As far as what the deal is, life sometimes gets in the way. I often wish I had more time for these sorts of things. But, tying flies hasn't been a priority for me since I was making a living doing it. Family, career, and other volunteer efforts have often taken me from things that I would like to do. As I said, I obviously don't have the time, so I won't likely sign up for one of these again.
I feel bad that my shortcomings are making you feel like you are looking bad in the UTOF community. I assure you, that is not the case, unless you have some other reason for waiting besides my flies, and it sounds like you don't. I have often found in cases such as these, you have to do what needs to be done with what you have. Other people understand. And I seriously doubt that anyone on your fly swap group is going to think any less of you if you don't include my flies because I didn't get them to you. If they do, then they are the ones who really ought to re-examine their priorities. As I understand it, this is a purely social and voluntary effort, and they are only flies.
Again, please send me the list and I will take care of sending out my flies. At this point, I'm not interested in receiving flies (I'm not likely to use them anytime soon, anyway), I just want to make sure that those who are expecting them from me get them. Perhaps a few extra flies will help assuage those who are upset at having to wait for a month. Any flies that were destined for me can either be redistributed to the rest of the group, or send back to the tier with the balance of the fly swap flies.
Jason

Hey Jason!
Don't worry about.... Sh** comes up in life.... No hard feelings from me!

06-04-2003, 07:10 PM
Don't worry about anything, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't know how to tie a single fly. The class you taught at USU a few years a ago was great. I don't think anyone is mad at you or Olsen, at least I'm not. No hard feelings towards anybody.
steelie
06-04-2003, 07:14 PM
I'm not mad at anybody, whatever is fine with me. I say you just give swan a week or two - I'm in no rush to get any flies. But whatever you want - I don't care.

Yeah, sorry about the meeting. It was Susie's 7th birthday yesterday. Had lots of fun. I'll be there next month.
Thanks Chanceb. That's going to be my new mantra!
BTW-flies are done. Hope no one minds comparadun instead of BWO emerger (ran out of small dun hackle). I'll see what happens. I'm not going anywhere for a couple of days due to work (downside of working remotely from home), but maybe my wife can drop the flies in the mail tomorrow or the next day if I get the list.
Later.

Jeff first of welcom to logan. For starters you should come visit the far north tying club tuesday night meet some people on the board that can take you out on the river and see what everyone ties up you can bring your tying stuff if you have any.
The logan river is a great river, for starters get some parachute adams, and phesant tails. i never really fished the logan in the spring like right now but some small BWO's would most likly work well.
If you want to go out over the weekend i think i can fit it in i wouldnt mind hitting the water.
Unlock youur email on the site so people can get a hold of you if you want, or email me. Another great resource is cache anglers we have monthly meetings, that are alot of fun
