Hook: Tiemco 100, Daiichi 1100, Mustad 94845
Abdomen: Coats & Clark "Summer Brown" sewing thread, twisted to create a segmented effect.
Thorax: Flat black 8/0 tying thread, "painted" over the thread base and lacquered.
Attach thread at midpoint wrap two or three turns toward the eye. Leave space for two wraps behind eye for later.
Wrap thread back over the previous layer to the midpoint and trim excess thread.
Continue wrapping towards the rear and stop just above the hook barb.
Allow bobin to hang and spin clockwise to tighten thread. Wrap forward with touching turns to the eye and make a small two turn whip finish. Trim thread.
Attach black flat tying thread behind eye and build a pronounced head or thorax that is a little less than 1/4 the length of the hook.
Whip finish and coat the thorax for a glossy finish.
If you lose this too go to the VFS site for their feature & instructions.

Well said ouzel.
On 6-27-01 Andy Kim gave this site some more info about his flies which I will list
1. He uses many different diameter threads for the size of his flies.
2. Most of his materials are not available to the public but he does use C&C as written about in the article.
3.Here are the colors he uses in Utah:
Green:brown, cream, dark olive, gray and red-size 18-24
Provo:brown, cream, gray-size18-22
Straw Res:cream, brick color red(maroon), light green, dark olive-size 16-20
Straw River:brown, gray, cream-size 18-22.

60 degrees and sunny!
Too bad you're in the land of warm water fish.
But you can always fish slow with a Texas rig.
I do remember the fish fries, corn liquor and warm, soft talking ladies.

ouzel,
I will be out in your area March and April and I cannot wait. Right now the only trout I catch are in a friend's lake that he stocked with some hatchery rainbows this past October. It is not baad but it is not the Provo or Green.

Where do you buy the thread for the yong special? It isn't just regular thread is it?

Coats and Clark thread . It is sold most places that sell sewing thread.

I hope your friends lake is deep enough or he got the Bows from a southern hatchery. It does get warm down south. Maybe he ought to add some Browns; they are more heat tolerent and help control the Bream population.
I look forward to a get together when your back in the territory. Hopefully I'll be around at the same time.

Maybe you forgot but most often when people do you a favor you say "Thank You".
Common courtesy is always welcome.

Stopped in Sportsmans Warehouse today to pick up some supplies, and was yakking with the guy behind the FlyFishing Counter about different Flies that work on the Provo River.
When I mentioned that I had used the Yong's Special and had found that Yellow and Tan had caught the most fish, the dude about flipped out.
He told me NOT to tell anybody, and especially not to mention the Color's of ANY of the Flies that work.
I asked him why not, and he said something about the fact that this Fly was so easy to make that ALL FlyFisherman would start making them, and the sale of Flies at their Counter would suffer.
I laughed and asked him if he were serious, he said emphatically YES, and that if people knew what to use, it would cause a decline in the Fishing because the Fish would be overfished with this type of Fly, and that he felt more people would start taking fish.
Whoa I said, NO WAY is this Fly going to take over the River, and NO WAY are people going to change their habits and start taking Fish.
Needless to say I was surprised that someone pimping fishing goods would come across in this manner, and that his attitude was as if he owned the river.
Kinda made me wonder how long Sportsmans has known this, and why they would act this way?

Hmmmm.... of course the gentlemen behind the counter at Sportsman's Warehouse are the ultimate authority on fishing the Provo. Come on guys, I love drooling all over the merchandise at the Warehouse... but the most effective fly ever thing has to be taken with a scoop of salt.

Did you notice if his tongue was in his cheek? He may have been "having you on". If it was "old Jim" he has more stories then a campfire full of cowboys or fishermen.
But I would go ahead and use the Youg.
Funny story Mr. T. Makes no sense as far as I'm concerned The Warehouse stands to make a lot more money from tiers who need materials every other day than the guy who comes in to buy a dozen flies for .79 cents once a month.
Anyway, I ordered some Yong flies (Green River Special) and just got them in the mail yesterday. Couple Yong Bloods, few Yong Specials, and two others I have not identified. Some much smaller than what I have been tying lately, and I've been tying 20-24. Damn small flies. They look good though.

I checked out Andy Kim's site, along with the Virtual Fly Shop, and it was interesting to see the different varieties of Flies that Guy has come up with, and how S I M P L E in design they are.
By reading what Andy has to say, I was amazed at how Finicky Trout really are, how the Fish can differentiate in Minute variances in a Flies Color, Texture, and Shape.
Who'da Thunk it?

I see that Andy Kim has visited UOTF and he posted in the "fact or fiction" thread in the "Fly Fishing" forum... His handle is "Yspecial."
Welcome Andy to UOTF!!!
It's the one and only. Before redoing the forums, Andy made the occassional post.
