Anyone know the open water conditions? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I went to Strawberry on Thursday with the pontoon. There was about 30 feet open water all around the shores. The bays had about 40 yards or so. The ice was really slushy so I suspect with any warmth at all it will all come off quickly. I could push through a lot of it with my pontoon. The wind this weekend will also probably break it up quite a bit too. Didn't go to Soldier Creek but it usually opens up earlier than Strawberry so there is probably a lot more open water.

A couple of bays past the marina turn-off. I don't remember for sure what its called. I'm sure you could take the road clear to Renegade. No snow at all on the roads and almost none anywhere on the ground.

For you guys wanting to fish Strawberry, you can have at her. I was there yesterday.

Lots of open water everywhere. YOu can fish Renegade and Indian Creek and use the boat ramp. Lots of open water around the East Portal Bay, Mud Creek (but the road is closed), Haw's Point etc. I didn't go passed the turn-off to the Visitor's Center, so I don't know what the rest is like, but judging from the drive from the Visitor's Center to Renegade, there's plenty of open water to fish.

Crosby, I was surpised to see so much open water. I didn't even bother taking my pontoon (duh). Then, I go there and realized that my stillwater flies, which I had sorted and prepared the night before, were still at home (duh). Luckily, I had a streamer box with a few patterns including a white zonker (your favorite). Caught a few cutts on that fishing from teh shore in the deeper water, but it wasn't lights out by any means. Nobody else there so I don't know whether the fishing is on or off or what. Saw some bait dunkers catch one on the Injun Crik side. that's about it.

So you pulled what is known in Cache Valley as a " Crosby".
Leaving at least one item that you need at home.

I had the pontoon boat out in Soldier Creek today for the first time this season. Things are looking much better this year than last year. Last year was miserable for me and others. Today was a very good day. Heck, the wind didn't REALLY get going until about 2:00 today...an extra 2 hours of comfort! I'll post a report on that "other" web site.

It was all open water in the area that I fished. Strawberry looked like mostly slush when I got there in the morning.

Strawberry was 100% open last Friday. It was really interesting to see some of my favorite spots as dry land. Stay in the shallows and move your fly very slowly. Now is the best time to target the big rainbows.
