Does anyone have a favorite stillwater place or two to chase brown trout?

Try Starvation in the spring near the dam. Streamers & Buggers.
Rockport also has some large Browns, however, I have not caught them.

Curtis,

don't tell me that had you caught that Brown, you wouldn't have killed it and put it on your wall. And, don't be jealouse of the bait fisherman for catching it. There is a time and a place for both flies and bait. Nothing wrong with using either when the time comes.

Jealouse = Jealous
There are no louses in there.

Back to the Brown question. I presume the Browns in Deer Creek are concentrated near the Provo and Deer Creek Fork river inlets. Probably more near the former. With the abundance of Perch, Bass, Walleye and Crawdads in Deer Creek, I'm not surprized that a Salmo Trutta could attain a very large size. The same logic applies to the Provo inlet at Jordanelle.

Plural of "louse" is lice!
Thank you for your attention PowerBaitHeppy ;o)

The only problem with replicas, is anyone can go get one. If I look up at my wall, I wan't to be able to say, "I caught THAT fish", not "I caught A fish just like that one!". And as far as spelling goes, I'm sure I could go look at some of your old posts and find some typo's. If you would like, I will start asking my secretary to type my posts for me so that I don't make any more mistakes.

Try the Prove river inlet at Jordenelle. I've caught a few nice Browns there, but more often than not, I end up catching small mouth bass which is also a lot of fun.

I've never taken a really large Brown there, but I've heard of such fish being caught there from Stillwater fly fisherman.

A couple of years ago someone landed a "Monster" Brown on Indian Creek Bay at Strawberry and the photo was posted on Doug Miller's web page at ksl.com but I don't know if the photo is still there or not.

I've never taken a brown at the Berry, but I guess they must be in there???

Another great stillwater for Browns is of course Flaming Gorge. My dad and I fish it every spring in March or early April and we've always seen some big Browns crusing the shallows near shore. And if the fishing for Browns is slow, the Rainbow fishing us usually pretty good.

Thank you to everyone for the great ideas. I'm excited to expand my horizons. I just wanted to ask Jeff Brooks where it is he has successfully fished Flaming Gorge. I have never fished that reservoir (always enjoying its beauty on the way to the Green) and I don't know where I might launch my float tube or what areas would be most productive in different seasons. Thanks again and keep the great suggestions coming.

Jeremy,

I fish at Sheep Creek Bay. From Manila head towards the dam. Its only about 20-30 minutes from town. I launch at the boat ramp and I fish on the opposite shore below the beautiful red-rock cliffs.

Try using patterns with a lot of bright flashy material in red, green, pink, brown and black.

The big Browns cruise right on the shore line at dusk and dawn and I've been scared half to death many times when one of those monsters surprises me and jumps out of the water right next to my pontoon. I don't know why they splash around so much, but it can be fun to watch.

I've also picked up some nice bows and a few salmon with a fly in that area. My dad's biggest fish from there is a 16lb crossbred trout of some kind. We're not sure exactly what it is, but its markings looks like a cross between a Brown and a Bow or Cutt and yet its coloring is a dull tan-brown. I don't know if the Browns interbreed with other fish or not???

Another good spot to try is to follow the shoreline east from the boat ramp. That can be absolutely awesome… Several years ago, if memory serves me, a fellow named Dell Currey or something like that landed a 25ish pound Brown along that westerly shore from a float tube (at night?) and it was a state record for a long time and maybe still is???

Good luck.
