wait for a couple of warm days in a row and hit it in the evening, this weather pattern will probably mess things up for a bit.

A few of us are thinking of hitting it on Saturday evening. At least that is the last I have heard.

The South West end by the dike has produced well in the past for me. Intermediate sinking line, with really slow retrieve seems to work the best. Size 4-8 Black Wooley worm with chartruse tail. A little bit of wind and an overcast day can really turn things on for the wipers.

Splat,

I've been told the opposite, that a nicer, warmer day is needed. Is your info seasonal? Do we need warmer weather early in the season, but more stormy conditions later in the year?

I'm with Splat,
if your fishing from shore, clounds, rain and wind will turn them on, wipers that is! This is from experience, I live a few miles away, and I've fished willard a time or two, to say the least.

so does that apply for this time of year?

Especially this time of year.

I know, it goes against everything you hear about warmwater species, but it seems to be true.

Last year the best days I had off the shore came the week of finals (priorities) which was the last week of april/first week of may. I fished it 4 out of 8 evenings. The best day of them all was over cast, slight drizzle, and a steady meadium wind from the west. Between 4 guys, probably landed 50+ wipers that night. Although thats probably the best we've done it, we've always managed to catch fish this time of year off the rocks.

Hi all im new here.

Heard about wipers on willard and i am really excited to try it out. I have never gone for anthing but trout and kokanee and i am really clueless on how to go for wipers. I have tied up some baby dolls white and some black buggers with chartruse tails and have some streamer patterns. Are these good patterns? and also i heard by the light pole is good but where do i find that. I also heard that i should go off the west dike and just fish from shore. what would be better i have a tube or should i just fish off the dike??

anyways if you guys go out on sat let me know where you went how you did

Thanks DeOlsen

This is the latest report:

Willard Bay - Fishing is fair. Anglers are catching a few wipers.

Went last night. Got skunked. I did have my son and another boy from the neighborhood so I was kept busy with tangles. It was the first ever time my son wanted to go fishing with me, he's 11. I was so pumped that he went that I didn't care that I didn't get to fish and I remained calm and cool with all the knots and tangles so he wouldn't have a bad experience with dad. He talked about going fishing again on the way home so I'm double pumped.

Anyway, I talked to a guy as we were leaving and he said he fishes for them all the time. He said the cooler weather, overcast and storms have put the wipers down. He told us to give them about three good days of warm, sunny 70 degree weather and then they would bite again. I have no experience in warmwater other than a few crappies. I did watch one fly fisherman land a wiper and one spin caster land one but that was it for the night. Nice looking fish. Will try it again. Maybe from a float tube?

I have never fished Willard Bay. People were talking about the wipers all the time last year. Now that I have a pontoon boat I'm going to give it a try. I imagine it's sweet to get a good size wiper on with a 4 weight fly rod. I'll probably go within the next month. I used to catch white bass in New Braunfels Texas several years ago. I caught a few stripers, but not many. Catch a wiper and you caught both at once hehe. I'm pretty close to the bay, too.

Nightfish, it is snowing pretty hard in Hyrum right now, not sure what it is like over the mountain.
