This past weekend I was reading an old Utah Outdoors magazine and it mentioned this pattern. How many of you fish with it? Do you use it on a regular basis?

I've used it quite a bit on the Lower. It's not really one of my go-to patterns, but it's one of those-just looks like food- patterns that I use when the bite is slow.

I use it a lot. Course, I'm biased, but it produces lots of fish for me.
Don't look at the horrible pictures in Utah Outdoors. Look at a properly tied one in Umpqua's 2003 encyclopedia. Or drop by Fish Tech, they try to keep them in stock.........

Thanks for the replies on this pattern. I need to make a point sometime to stop by Fish Tech.
Carpman do you or anyone else know anything about a pattern called the Western Omelet?

Besides being a tasty way to start a day on the river, a friend ties one up that imitates an egg cluster using plastic beads in 2 colors(red/yellow) strung on mono and secured to the hook.

How about that properly tied floatilla in the Umpqua catalog!!! That baby's a beauty.
Trout 4x. carpman is just being modest its his pattern. So he's probably the expert on it.

Has been a very reliable performer for me on the Provo and South Fork of the Snake during BWO hatches, spring and fall. Effective nymphing or as trailer. I haven't had much success with it on the Green, but I really haven't hit a good BWO hatch there in a while either.

So the pattern your friend ties up of the Western Omelet do you have a photo? I am not sure if that is the pattern I am looking for or what? Has anybody else heard of this pattern?
Utah DaveII thanks for the information about the fly.

Sorry, no pic. I don't even have one in my box, and haven't fished with him in at least a year. Night shifts suck! I can tell you that the plastic beads he uses are the faceted kind. Round, but looking like the Epcot ball, and are approx <1/4". If I remember right, there are 4 per hook, 3 arranged against the shank in a triangle, and the 4th(the lighter colored bead) on top & centered. It might be easier to create using the Moe egg method or the pom-poms. I guess you could tie something similar with egg yarn as well.

I looked up the Rainbow Warrior on the Umpqua website and couldn't find it.
Guess I have to sneak into Al's and look at the book.

For some reason, they haven't updated their site with the 2003 flies. They are in the 2003 encyclopedia though. I have free copies available at Fish Tech if anyone is in need of a fly encyclopedia............

I sent Dave Webb an e-mail asking if he could add that article to the viewable archive so all here could get up to speed. Dave promptly did so. The guy is cool.

Jason,
That is a decent copy. The tail is generally shorter, and it is also tied with silver tungsten beads as well as the pearl glass bead version.
Lowcountry, and anyone that works at Al's,
Thanks for supporting my pattern. I really appreciate it.......

Thanks again for the information, so do you swing by Al's after Angies? LOL

I ordered a backdrop (Renzetti) for my tying bench over a month ago and it still isn't here. If it isn't here by Thursday I'm cancelling the order and will just slip up to West Y. Saturday and pick one up from Blue Ribbon.
Angie's is generally a once a week gig on Sunday A.M. unless of course the are exigent circumstances.

I would suggest calling W. Y. and seeing if they have one and hold it for you. I would be shocked if they have it in time.
