any of you know of a shop that has a lot of rod building components instock? I'm particularly looking for handles I could actually put in my hand to test out.

Fishtech has a good selection. Talk to Dennis at Flydesk too, I believe he has some building supplies too. Lonepeak is increasing their selection too.

I think Fish Tech probably has the best selection. Haven't been to high country or the Ogden stores so can't comment on them. I don't know how much Dennis has in - would be curious to find out.
to a lathe or have an electric drill you can turn your own cork grips to custom fit your hand. You do need a refernce so just go to a good shop and try some rods out they should be able to tell you the style you have in your hand, most common styles are the cigar syle or the western river style. If you wand to turn your own go to www.thomaspenrose.com and got to the section on turning you own cork.

thanks for the link on turning grips... I was given referrence to the following article over on FAOL, and after reading through it I believe I will make my own handle.

I wear 2XL gloves, and I do not believe I will find a handle big enough to accomodate me.
it seems pretty simple to make your own, and the link you posted has some great info it looks like.

Cary helped me with building a custom cork for a rod and it's the best handle I've ever had.
