Do any of you guys tie propeller flies, and have you had any success for trout on our local stillwaters with them? Also, if you wouldn't mind letting me in on your recipe I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Ask Trout4X how long it takes to unwind your leader after trolling with one of these clear across Mantua. LOL

After dinking with them quite a few years ago- I quit-
Go to Walmart and buy the pistol petes if you want to go that way- or contact Fred- I hear he has enough props to fit the Queen Mary (0:

They have them at the sportsmans in Provo. I thought about buying some the other day but didn't do it.

When I saw the props, I did get pretty stoked. But, I only bought one pack. So, contrary to what Crosby says, I am not the man to ask about props. I am still in the expiremental phase and I'm going to give them a whirl next time I go stillwater fishing. I just tie them like buggers and throw on a bead and a propellor. Not sure what will happen.

But Jason knows all about the Wal-mart flies and he says that they rock.

Actuall I tied them on a nylon coated steel cable made for a leader for muskies- actually did catch fish- it was a killer on perch also. but it did twist line and just came to the conclusion if I was going to do that it would more effective to use a spinning rod and pull a panther martin so I quit. I did have to drill out the prop hole for a better spin- but that was a long time ago and the props now are probably better made- it was sometime around the bronze age.

Every so often I get the hankering to tie something different, and I thought I'd ask for your input before I "did the deed". Thanks.

Teewinot is right they are not fun to untwist, I have never seen anything like that. They don't catch fish any better as well. IMO you don't need them.

Hey, those Wal-Mart Pistol Pete flies work. Don't knock em' if you haven't tried them. I've caught some nice bows on Minersville Res with those. Brown, Olive, and Rainbow colors worked the best for me. I've still got a few left but I haven't fished with them for a couple years. And I've never got any tangles too. It must be the fisherman, not the fly. ;-)

They're just woolley buggers with a small propeller on the front. Pretty simple to tie.
