Hi folks... I joined this site specifically to get some Utah advice, but I must say it's among the very best FF sites I've seen. Congrats & keep up the good work.
I have a friend in Salt Lake City who said he'd put me up. What's a good time of year to visit, and what rivers within striking distance of Salt Lake should I learn about?

I take it you have never fished here before? When are you available to make a trip out west? How long can you stay? Do you fish stillwater as well as rivers?

There is the great lower provo, always a great river. It can treat you very nice. If your looking for someone to hook up with shoot me an e-mail and can get you any other info needed

4X, correct, never been to Utah. I guess I could go anytime -- that is, no time is particularly good. I'd be happy to fish stillwaters but don't really know the first thing about it -- just getting into that game back here, actually.

Check the links in the "resources" section of the web site. Look for the Western Rivers link and you will find fishing reports on the local rivers. Within striking distance: the Lower Provo, the Middle Provo, and the Weber are the ones that are the most fished. If you like smaller rivers and creeks, the summer is the best time because you can get into the Uintas and fish smaller creeks. If you like bigger rivers, and don't mind the cold sometimes, March is a good time because the crowds are still down and you can fish the Green (which is three hours from SLC) or the Lower Provo (which is 45 minutes away) and get into some hatches.

But, if you really want good summertime fishing, tell your friend to move out of Salt Lake City and up into Montana.

Good luck.

Don't listen to Fred, Utah has plenty of GREAT summertime fishing, no need to move to Montana.

I will get some information together for you as well.

Feel free to send me an e-mail too. I'd be happy to share some stuff with you when you decide when you are going to come out and maybe even hook up for a day.

Depending on how much time you have, you may want to consider shooting up into Idaho for a couple of days and hitting some of those famous waters.

If you'd e-mail me like I asked you to on the VSF I'd be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
