This morning I let my 2 year old daughter help me tie a fly. I let her choose the materials and where they should go. It was interesting to say the least. Her favorite part was wrapping the thread.
Anyway here is the recipe. I doubt you will see this in the fly tying section any time soon.
Tied on a size 10 nymph hook.
First the tail. 4 strands of peacock herl about 2 inches in length straight off the back and a 1/2 inch piece of red turkey quill.
Then one of those feathers at the bottom of a cheap grizzly piece of hackle that are half maribou and half really long hackle Tied in on about a 45 degree angle facing rearward toward the tail.
A gap and then the wings. The wings are tied from the butt ends of red turkey feathers. They are think and about an inch long each. One just a tad longer than the other.
Gold flashabou for the head. I think she liked the sparkle.
Very interesting fly. I believe this would be an attractor pattern as I have never seen a fly that resembles this pattern in any way. To make matters worse I don't even get to fish the fly, she gave it to her grandpa.
