I was on the P today and my broinlaw had already been there over an hour and a fellow that was gone by the time I got there gave him a fly that was knocking them dead.

It was a parachute style with a trailing shuck? What do all you you tie on for trailing shuck. I cant copy the fly exactly because my broinlaw had destroyed it by the time I got there.

Thanks in advance.

Ken.

z-lon or antron are my favorites. Favorite fly with a trailing shuck is the E-merger.

Brown antron.

I know a similar fly that has a gray quill for the body and white CDC for the post. The rest of it is tied like a parachute adams. I also use that same brown antron for a comparadun that works well on the Provo.

Just out of curiousity, what size was that fly?

Fred, thanks for adding the color to that answer.

That fly was bigger than I thought would work and I am guessing I would say #16.

Brown or rust antron or z-lon. Fred, that pattern sounds close to the one I've been having success with. It has rust antron shuck, gray quill body, white antron post and parachute tied hackle. Last April on the Green it was deadly. Last couple of times on the Provo it's been great too. I use size #22 or #20.

Hare's Ear Antron Sparkle dubbing ($.99 at SW).

can be made with a number of different materials.
Antron and z-lon work well but plain yarn, dubbing, mallard, moose mane and other feathers and hair have long served.

Remember to keep it kind of sparse.
