Does anyone have any experience with the Turbo Spinning Block (or something similar) for creating dubbing brushes? I am specifically interested in creating CDC hackles with one. I noticed Orvis has one on sale and thought it might be the time to buy one.

Take a peek at: http://www.orvis.com/store/product_choice.asp?pf_id=09RP&feature_id=&dir_id=1273&group_id=1279&cat_id=179&subcat_id=1&shop_id=

www.justflytying.com sells the manual type of dubbing block which I like because you have better control. I have not tried to make CDC brushes yet (you need very fine wire- .0025mm) I believe you can get the wire at the web site as well.

They work great to create brushes with wire bodies, but I've never tried to make a thread core brush like the mass produced CDC hackles. Could be worth a try, then again, it might be more cost effective to just buy the pre-made CDC hackle.........

Since when does cost effective and fly tying go together? I thought we tied so we could buy more crap.

Thanks for the input guys.
