So in preparation for the trip to Pelican, what the heck do I use to catch Bluegills? I haven't fished for Bluegills since I was in 5th grade with my little spinning rod in the pond behind my house.
What patterns and are there any good web sites out there that might help? Do we catch them on top?
Also, are there any other bodies of water closer to SLC that hold Crappie, Bluegill etc? I want to expand my horizons a bit this spring and summer.

The month of June the gills are spawning, they will eat anything and everything to protect their nests.
I always loved fishing weedless chernobyls #12.....good for the bass too. Any beadhead below an indicator or dry is good. reds, chartruse, peacock, PTs.....you get the picture.

If you want gills closer to SLC, Next to pelican, I think Mantua has some of the biggest bluegill in the state.

If you can make the trip just over the border, Glendale has some HUGE gills, i bet some of them would rival our own state record, the problem is you have to weed through about a million 8"-10" bass, this may not be a problem though....Condie used to have good bluegill - I haven't fished it since the dam repair....
