To help make the 2003 Utah fishing season a little more exciting, we've come up with a challenge for you.

Are you looking for a change? Are you stuck in a fly fishing rut? How about a new challenge?

…Might we suggest the 2003 UOTFly Fish Challenge!

What is the challenge?
Catch every species of game fish in Utah using only fly fishing equipment and tackle.

Why have a challenge?
This is a personal challenge that doesn't provide prizes and fame, but it will provide a framework for challenging yourself, expanding your skills and knowledge and ultimately providing you with new fly-fishing passions!

Challenge Details:

1. This is a challenge for you, not a competition against others! Therefore there is no reason to be anything but honest. (Of course fish stories are well known to consist of lies and fabrications! Save those stories for your friends, not the UOTFly forum.)

2. Fish caught must meet the following conditions:
· Must be caught on a fly and using fly fishing equipment
· Must be caught in Utah
· Must be caught lawfully as outlined in the Utah Fishing Proclamation
· Fair hooked (in the mouth)
· Fish must be landed to count
· No scent attractors or bits of bait on a fly

3. Use the fish challenge scoresheet for the list of fish species and corresponding points to keep your score. There are 100 points possible. (http://www.utahonthefly.com/random/utahfishchallenge.xls)

· The points are awarded by fish specie, not not how many fish caught of a certain specie. (I.e. Five Brown Trout are not worth 5 points, but a total of 1 point.) The fish specie scores have been assigned according to how hard or challenging
that particular fish specie will be to catch.

4. UOTFly Fish Challenge Forum will be an integral part of this challenge. Many have little or no experience fishing for some species and in the tradition of UOTFly forums we hope you will use it to share what you know as well as learn something new. (And of course post responsibly, so as not to over publicize delicate or secret locations…) In other words, let's help each other out by sharing information about the fish challenge, specifically how and where to catch certain fish species. And most importantly, have fun.

In the spirit of UOTFly traditions, this challenge may be a good excuse to plan some fishing trips related to the fish challenge.

Thanks to stout_trout for coming up with this great idea.
