About three years ago I wanted to upgrade my reels and I did a lot of talking to the guys that work in various fly shops and everyone kept talking about the Bauer reels as a great reel with a strong track record. I was planning to start fishing in places such as Alaska so I thought I would be needing a very high quality reel for my 6 weight rods so I bought the Bauer M2 reel.

Three years later I still have not made it to Alaska and for all of the fish I've caught in Utah (including several trout in the 24-27 inch range) I have absolutely no need of a reel the quality and price of the Bauer.

There is no question that if I ever make it to Alaska or elsewhere where the trout or bonefish… are really big and powerful I'll be glad I have the Bauer reels (2 reels and 6 spools now???) but for all of my local fishing they are overkill and a waste of hard-earned money...

I also don't like the placement of the drag controls. If I had to do it over again, I would buy a medium prices reel and be much happier about it...

I agree. I'm in the same boat. However, I still find myself looking for deals on yet one more extra spool. What on earth are you doing with 6 spools? Do you want to sell one?

I love mine! Bauer is all I have purchased for years. They last forever and I have never had an issue with mine. There is not a reel built better.

6 spools = lots of stillwater lines.

Is that better for you chris? Wouldn't want you to have to read a whole paragraph:)
