A question for those of you that record/log each day of fishing as I do. What do you feel is the most important information you keep? That is, the information that you regularly go back to and look at and use. On the other hand what information do you consider superfluous? That you record and rarely use.
I am in the process of closing out my old journal and starting a new one. I would just like to hear everyone's opinion.
Thanks & Merry Christmas

I keep a fishing log myself and find two important things that I always go back to in my old logs. The first is information on bug hatches. There is nothing better than hitting my favorite hatch right on, and I will check my old logs to try and predict this year's hatch. The second most important information that my logs tell me is about fish migration. Some great fishing can be had prior to a spawn when fish start moving toward the spawning areas. It is also nice to know when the fish move from the summer runs into their winter runs, which can be judged from catch rates at river locations in my fishing log.

I just got a Palm for Christmas, I have seen a couple of programs that are basically glorified fishing logs. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using any of them and which seems to work best? Any feedback is appreciated!

I use to keep a journal (abit haphazordly) but now with the internet and the current information therein I have decided not to work harder with duplication of effort.
Fishing Journals were a way to note the physical data for that day or week (trip) so that we could hopefully duplicate a successful outing it the following year.
We now have learned that not only is no April 4th or any other day is like the year before but also the previous days leading to that date are not like the year before.
Now a days you can get on the net and obtain a great deal of CURRENT information that includes hatch charts, what is NOW happening on the water (almost any water) and how to tie those flies.
Unless you personaly enjoy rereading journals of days or trips with friends I feel keeping a journal now-a-days is extra effort.
