I just sent out all of the patterns for the bass swap. Thanks for participating everyone! I am pondering the idea of hosting a damselfly swap. Nymphs or adults. I am always up for a good damsel pattern. Maybe 10 entrants with a deadline of Feb 21st?? Any takers? I am going to tie the Tullis damsel. I'm going to have to reserve a spot for Dennis if he wants. I know he's got something up his sleeve.

I finally get another chance to join in. Adult damsel, please, I think. Let me check my patterns. Probably adult.

a very understanding wife. I also have learned to tie as quickly as I can. I can do a dozen damsels in about 1 hour. Fast isn't always the key though. I like to enjoy my time tying.

So far we have 8. I going to make MWSpearo tie two flies for this one. He ties a fly that is a bit challenged, so we call it the helmet fly. It really shouldn't be considered a fly, but it catches fish like crazy.
Cheech- Tullis Damsel
MWSpearo- Adult Damsel, Helmet
MCGX2- Kaufmann's Green Mtn. Damsel
Shazerblaze- Adult Damsel
Baetis- Parachute Damsel
Jason-
Dennis-
T4X-
2 more!

Should I send them in.
10 of each right?

I guess it's easy for a guy that has 82 of each size of each pattern to give up a few that are ALREADY in his box! I think you were ruined when you looked at Dennis' flyboxes. Dennis, you are a bad example!

Hey Cheech.
I'll be tying Mike's Damsel. It uses real seal in the thorax. I think that is the secret to it's success. I've tied the same pattern without the seal and they just don't work as effectively. Now to address this "fault" thing........I'm sorry, I started tying when I was 12 and I just got addicted. Tying commercially instilled the habit of tying more that you might need. What do I concider need, you might ask. Well through the years I find that I will usually use 6 flies of any one pattern over a years time. (loss, fish abuse, whatever) I will then need at least two for the guy I'm fishing with for I know he is not goinng to have on like it and he is going to loose at least two while we're out. I fish with about 6 differnt people each year on a concistent basis. That's a dozen flies. At least two fishermen on the lake are going to notice me catching fish and are going to come up to me and ask, " what the h... are you using, can you spare a couple?" If I only fished 12 days a year this is 24 different fishermen needing 2 flies at least=48 flies more. For each day I fish over 12. I am going to need 4 more flies for each day .............You get the picture. Cheech, you tie just about as many flies as MWSpearo and I but you only tie 6-10. But you tie about 750 different patterns. I've seen your boxes. They look like a New York City street. 1000's of people crammed into it, but all different. Hey, hey, hey hey.
MWSpearo
01-17-2003, 02:40 PM
Your right Cheech's boxes look like a melting pot of patterns.
cheech
01-17-2003, 03:20 PM
Maybe someone could do a foam adult damsel???
So I have a politically correct fly box or two. I just like to have a LOT of patterns. I guess I'm more stingy with my flies;) Just for that, this year I will complete a box of nothing but Olive Willeys.

MWS -- all the email from UtahOTF to your email address is bouncing. Please update your email address -- or alternately don't subscribe to any more threads. I would greatly appreciate it. Normally I would just invalidate your UtahOTF account, but obviously you're still around!
Thanks!

This swap is now closed. You should email Bassonthefly@yahoo.com so I can send you my address info. The mailing deadline is Feb 21st. We can also meet to swap flies if that is more convenient for any of you. The Taco Bell by SW makes for a good swapping spot.
Cheech- Tullis Damsel
MWSpearo- Adult Damsel, Helmet
MCGX2- Kaufmann's Green Mtn. Damsel
Shazerblaze- Adult Damsel
Baetis- Parachute Damsel
Jason-
Dennis- Mikes damsel
T4X-
Teewinot- Marabou Damsel
Nhancock- Olive Damsel
I'm not going to be the swap Nazi like Trout4x, who makes you put your recipe, SS#, and birthdate with your fly;) If you want to include a card, it would be very much appreciated. If you decide not to, it will be fine. Just expect to get emailed by all of the other swappers who want the recipe.

At least he doesn't ask for the locations of all of you valuables and the schedule for your next trip. Yeah, just kidding. I can't wait. On one of my last trips, my father and I ran out of adults. I just about died. I decided to grab the next fly (it ended up being an green drake with and extended body) that was close enough, and modified it. It worked "enough", but I was hurting for a damsel. Tie on.

I just picked up Dennis' flies. These little bad boys are KILLERS... We have some sweet flies accumulating. The fish are going to hate us come June.
I have flies from:
mcgx2- green mountain damsel
Dennis- Mike's damsel
me- super duper red eye tullis damsel variation
Keep cranking them out suckers!

I hope these patterns make it to the fly tying page. Is that part of your plan Cheech?

I will try to get them in. I have access to a camera with a macro feature. I think these flies are going to be must haves.

Trouty, and bcsort- Sorry about that. I should have had more slots available. Next time I'll do a swap for 12 or 13. I hate to go too high because it can get tedious. I will get pictures and send them via email.

No reason to apologize Cheech. You're absolutely right - too many and it IS tedious. I saw the swap but just procrastinated too long trying to decide. My mistake. Pictures and recipes would be great though.
BTW, did you have a chance to try the white drunken sailor on your last bass trip? Like I mentioned before I've never tried it for bass but have been told it works great. If you didn't try it or didn't catch anything with it that's okay too, I was just curious.

I just finished my damsel adults. I have them in a small clear cyclinder, ready for mailing. It almost looks like I collect bugs -- in my dreams, but it is pretty cool looking. They should be in the mail tomorrow or Friday. That's early enough, isn't it. I look forward to seeing everybody's flies. Be good.

I am probably going to go up a little bit early. I'll probably leave my house around 6:00 If you are going to be coming from west valley, you will drive pretty close to my house. If you want to meet near the I-80 7th east exit that would be cool. As you get off the freeway, there is a small pet store right there. We could meet in the parking lot. Let me know.

All flies have been received or are in the mail. I was about to get T4X to dress up in his realtree camo and hunt some people down. J/K. The patterns are great. These flies will definately account for many fish caught. As soon as all of the patterns come in, I will get them out. Hopefully by the end of the week. Thanks again. Now I have to start thinking about another swap. Any Ideas?
