View Full Version : Fly Swap??

Any interest if I started a new swap? It could be an anything goes swap, Dry, nymph, Midge, wooley bugger, attracter etc.. I will host and I am open for suggestions.
Caddfly

How about a glass bead fly swap? Anything with a glass bead? I've got quite a few ideas up the sleeve...
icthys
01-06-2003, 01:44 PM
a anything goes sounds good. I'd like to see someone's sow bug and also a damsel nymph.
Teewinot
01-06-2003, 01:57 PM
I'd join in with a sow bug.
Trout4x
01-06-2003, 02:38 PM
How much interest, I will determine a date. I will give everyone plenty of time to tie, mainly to give Teewinot enough time, he averages 1/2 a fly a day. (LOL)
Johnny

I may be interested. I've been tying for all of two weeks now so an "Anything Goes" swap is OK with me. I tie a mean Olive Thread Midge. J/K. My glass bead caddis is coming along nicely
yeah I would be interested too
I would like in. Anything goes, glass beads, doesn't really matter to me. I know...I have a glass bead damsel nymph pattern I like. However, if the number goes over 15 I'm out. Don't want nightmares of me threading hundreds of tiny glass beads!

I'd be interested in either glass bead or anything goes. I seem to rely on certain patterns that I think it would be great to see what others depend on..........Dennis

01-06-2003, 05:26 PM
What sort of due date were you looking at? I might be interested as well. Are you going to ask people to submit tying instructions with the fly?
Larry S.
01-06-2003, 05:30 PM
I might be in. I have quite a few beads and wet fly hooks that are just laying around.
Give us more than a week tho.

I have a stonefly pattern that you fish dry. It ROCKS on small streams in the spring.

So anything goes wins out? Or is it glass beads? I won't pull up the vice just yet, but I still want in.
Cameron

I'm in for the "anything goes"...not the best with beads yet. Good at streamers though.
ROOSTER
01-07-2003, 03:12 PM
I tend to agree with "anything goes", if that is alright with everyone else. I also think that 15 sounds like a pretty good stopping point. If you guys want to go higher, that will work too. 15 just sounds like a good round number to me. This will be my first swap, so I am excited to give it a shot. Thanks for organizing it.

I think 15 is good, and anything goes.
Trout4x
01-07-2003, 04:08 PM
Anything goes is the Swap. If you fish with it and tie it that is what will be accepted in the swap. I will send everyone the rules that will need to be followed from the deadline to the mailing of the flies.

Trout4X -- Maybe I should tie up a double treble bugger like we were talking about. ;) lol
Those just seem to snag fish left and right.
By the way we were looking at a few homes last night in your neighborhood, we've got a few more scheduled to look at on Thursday. You were right about the trashed one. It definitely is trashed. We found one we like down on Hollow Road.
...........what has become of this?
Larry S.
01-09-2003, 01:40 PM
Better buy it. You'll be 5 minutes closer to the Green via Ant Flat............
Besides, in a good water year you'll have them great big bugs crawling all over your picnic table in May.

Trout4x,
Post an address to send these too! Mine are ready. Did a bunch of WD-40's size 20's in Diachii hooks. Love these for this time of year! Do you want tying instructions?
I'll tag mine...but would you make yours a little more detailed! You didn't include the life cycle of the beetle ;)
Great tag!!

Is there any specific way the tags are supposed to be done? Can you give me an idea of how to make the tags?
Trout4x
01-14-2003, 10:30 PM
A small strip of paper with name and fly on it. Is all it really takes attach it to the hook over the barb.
Teewinot
01-14-2003, 11:14 PM
In the last swap I got a new idea for tags that works pretty slick. Stef was the one who did it on her flies. She wrote her info on a sticky label and then just folded it over onto itself just on the bend of the hook.
I've always just typed up my pattern name and my username in word, print them out, then I just cut them out then poke the hook through the tag.

What's everyone else tying?
I guess I'll check out my supply of hooks and tie on what I have the most of or don't want anymore.
Dennis
01-20-2003, 02:14 PM
The Box? I found a case of 500 at a distressed freight outlet. They cost me less than a penny each. They were originally for one of those rubber stamp kits for scrapbooking but when I saw them I knew they would come in handy for shipping flies. As you can see they are large enough to put in quite a few flies without crushing them and flat enough to fit nicely into a padded envelope.
Johnny
01-20-2003, 02:26 PM
So, if your price was less than a penny each, maybe you wouldn't mind parting with some for about a nickel each.
Trouty
01-20-2003, 03:26 PM
I, like Larry, wouldn't mind knowing what some of the flies are that people will be tying. (If you've already decided.) I would rather not duplicate one that someone else is tying. I was looking at tying a stillwater chironomid pattern, probably a TDC or Chromie. I was hoping to tie something Dennis hasn't fished before but realize that's unlikely given his tying capability and propensity to paddle around on stillwaters.
If anyone knows what they are tying please share it with us to avoid duplication.

Trouty, Don't worry about what I may have in my boxes. Just tie what you would like. Even if it is a pattern I already tie and use, I've found that everyone puts their own "twist" to the way they are tied, that makes them unique.

My box elder bugs are all done, tagged, in a box with enough $$ to get them back to me and ready for tomorrow's morning mail. You know, I saw some BE bugs out at my Grandma's house earlier this week... wondering if they are coming out a little early on the BSF?
4X, is this box going to SLC first before coming back up here to Cache Valley? Then again, they are done a little early...they can go pretty much anywhere for awhile, then again, I shouldn't jinx them.

Well looks like I won't be finishing this week.

Ok, this is rough, so no wisecracks! I apologize, I had a blonde moment. Larry got me to thinking last night that the problems you were having with my hotmail account were strange so I did some research. You remember when I joked about taking you off my blocked list...I really am going to take you off now!!
A few months ago I got sick of junk mail so I went into a blocking frenzy not realizing I was blocking entire server and domain addresses. So, if you sent me mail from pcu.net, yahoo.com, or excite.com, I had you blocked. Oops...te he he! I apologize for questioning your spelling :)

AWESOME JOB EVERYBODY! Picked up the flies from T4X this afternoon and then we went up on the BSF. It really wasn't THAT cold, but definitely could be warmer. Can't wait to fish 'em.

I am glad you drove, when I put my stuff in the garage I noticed the car had a flat tire. We would have been walking out of the canyon.
It was nice meeting you, we will have to go again.

I hate to single anybody out for praise, as this is not a competition, but I gotta tell you Cameron, that's a nice looking fly. Its great to see a classic looking thin streamer. Seems like you go into a fly shop anymore, and all the streamers have half a rabbit tied to them. Great job everybody!!!!!

Received my flies today. They all look great. I think that the coolest one has to be the dead stonefly. That's a nice looking fly. Is there a specific time of the year that you fish with it?

Just after the stonefly hatch and the freeze comes and kill them all.

I'm a new member looking at swaps. Is there an ICON or something that indicates that a swap is full?

but a good idea. The Bluegill swap is still open. I think you just have to scroll through and read the posts (I know that might take some time with T4X's swaps...;))

I'd like to be in on another swap before the ice goes out up here! How about traditional wet fly patterns only? You know...back to the roots and all.
