Sorry, this doesn't have to do with flytying. I have a group of about 8 Scouts that are interested in building flyrods. Is there anyone, or anyplace that would have some inexpensive kits, and instructor that would be interested in working with us? If I can swing the flyrods, I'll turn these kids into ff-ing enthusiasts. I'm trying to work any and all of the Scouting merit badges that might apply to flyfishing into my program.

Conehead,

This is a link to a company in CO that has good prices for people wanting to make their own rods. The components are not the best, but I have built four of their rods. Their cork is excelent, and half the cost. Hope this helps...

You may want to talk to Paul at Anglers Inn. If he is not down at the Green, he is at the shop near Southtown Mall. I spoke with him a couple of times this summer in regards to building a rod, and they actually have some time they set aside after hours to assit with the process. He should be able to help you out with what you need. I am not sure if it is kosher to post phone numbers on the site, so if you would like his number, you can e-mail me at mwest@btinc.com and I will give you the info I have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Conehead,
Talk to James Farrin at Hooked in Kaysville. He has the kits and the rod blanks. I also have a few contacts as well. I can get some seconds from a friend at a pretty low price. James should work with you on a good rate. He also teachs how to build the rods as well. Great place to start!

Conehead, I'd be willing to help. I helped a troop in North Ogden a few years ago and had a ball. Seems like the scout leader contacted someone at Pacific Bay and they put together a pretty decent package for about $35 dollars each. If you need help, let me know when and where and I'll see if I can make it.
