View Full Version : Deadly Dozen
Sitting around the coffee pot this AM we got discussing what are our favorite dozen flies. After giving it some thought, if I was limited to just a dozen patterns, here are the ones I'd choose:
Drys
Parachute Adams
CDC and Elk
Elk Hair Caddis
Fur ant
PMX
Nymphs
Pheasant Tail
Twist Nymph
Hare’s ear
Brassie
Other
Wooly Bugger
Transitional Dun (Mayfly emerger)
Looped wing caddis emerger
I'd be interested in seeing which 12 you'd choose if you were limited to just a dozen patterns.

A pheasant tail. Gotta have some variety.
You're getting too predictable Cary. Although, that PT caught me by surprise.
I like the Mercer MicroMayfly and the RS2 as my favorite two nymph patterns. Also like WD40, Fox Caddis pupah, and a little thread body midge with wire.
I like comparaduns, stimulators, and parachute adams.
Elk hair caddis and CDC Caddis.
Double renegades and crystal buggers.
January, February: Prince Nymph under. Griffith Gnat on top.
March, April: Pheasant Tail under. Chain-stitched BWO on top.
May, June: Stone Nymph under. Stone dry on top. Sparkle Pupa under. Partridge Caddis on top. PMD on top.
July, August, September, October: Twisted Hopper, Looped Beetles.
November, December: Prince Nymph under. Griffith Gnat on top.
Of course, this could all change based on where I end up fishing or any weird and funky experimental pattern to try.
I'm not sure why I responded to this?
