Jason,

How about you and Mike share with us what dries you are going to tie for the March trip to the Green.

Perhaps the gorge burger midge, mating midge, and the old reliable Gr gnat?

Thanks,

Bob

I'll try to take a photo of the GBM and post it on the site by Monday. The basic recipe for this fly were posted a few weeks back:

It's really a simple fly, but it has proven to be really effective when bigger stuff like the griffiths gnat isn't working. It suspends perfectly which I think is the most important feature of the fly. It's also an easy tie if you don't mind small hooks.

Forgive me for asking, but what is "Craft Foam Block" and where can I get some. I have some foam that is the same stuff I tie Charnoble Ant with. Is that the same stuff? The fly doesn't sound too bad to tie. Do you usually fish a dropper with it? Thanks!

Strike -- my recipe is 3rd down from the top and simply uses "postal foam." It's just the foam you find wrapped around shipped packages and such. So I can't help you in the craft foam block department. Although I suspect you can find that at craft stores! As far as droppers go, it's pretty much a requirement with the GBM in my experience. If the water is incredibly still or you're casting at very close range you can see the fly. Usually however, given that 90% of the fly is under the water and you use a tiny hook to boot, it's almost impossible to see well under most conditions. I'll drop it 18 inches under a larger dry like a griffiths gnat and watch the griffiths for takes, or alternately you can sometimes find the GBM by looking around the area of the lead fly. Of course I've also employed the magical "my fly should be about there" method and set the hook when I see the water near the GBM boil a little bit.
