Anyone in the far north of the state or adjacent area interested in a tying club? A couple of us have started to kick the idea around. We could probably draw on some guest tiers that many of you are not familiar with to go along with those that you are.

What nights are you planning on? How often every month? Where? etc...

That's what we would have to decide but once a month should do. Like I said, we were just considering it.

Larry, sounds like a great idea. You should do it. You just need to find a good meeting place and you're set. Use the site to promote it and I'm sure you'll get a good group to participate. Let me know and we'll make it an official UOTFly tying club.

So far it looks like we have maybe 6 interested. Lets let this float for a few more days to see if we can get more.

Meanwhile, I have to go to Yellowstone(damn!) tomorrow for a couple days. After I get back we'll see what we have and go from there.

I'd be interested, but it does depend on what night as to whether I can attend or not. Sounds great though!

Count me in!

Hey Teewinot where have you been hiding? I'm assuming by your name, you do some climbing. Thought you'd be interested in knowing that Jon Krakauer is in town. He is speaking at Weber State on Thursday and then at Ogden High on Friday. I'm not sure if it is open to the public or not. He wrote "Into Thin Air" about the Everest Tragedy and also "Into the Wild" the Chris McCandless tragedy. I think he was the first person to summit Devil's Thumb in Alaska (alone). Just thought you might be interested.

Hey RAW and Trout4X

Ya, I haven't been on this site for quite some time. I've been swamped with school, work, and trying to find a real job for when I graduate. Total bummer.

You're right RAW. My username is from a mountain in the Teton range near where I grew up. It is one of my favorite mountains up there. I've been a big time climber since about 1995, but lately I haven't done much of it since fly fishing has taken most of my summer free time.

I'm very familiar with Jon Krakauer. I've actually read all of his books (Into the Wild being my favorite) I wish I would have more time this week to go and listen to him speak. I have to get everything with school squared away so I can sneak away next week for the deer hunt.

Trout4X -- How have you done hunting this year so far?

Hey I never told you about my trip up to Montana. -- Well we ended up not fishing the Madison like we planned, and the gulpers weren't quite going yet on Hebgen so we skipped that. I did end up meeting up with the owners son of Hyde drift boats and he took us down the Box Canyon section near Island Park. It was great! There are some BIG fish in there. It was a lot of fun to see those fish just run with my fly and zip my line out as fast as they could. I hope to be able to take another visit up there again.

I have the whole week off of the deer hunt if you want to get together one day call me. We can go to a "quiet place" that is until I shoot!

Thanks. We ought to get together and fish out one of these indian summer afternoons before they're gone! Let me know if you have any time.

Dave R.

P.S. I've been taking Bob Trowbridges tying class (which has been great) and hope that this Far North Tying Club takes off. It would be a great way to get through this winter and meet some new flyfishers/tyers.

It looks like 8 so far (including Bob & I) 2 of which are in Bob's current class. Seems like a good start. We should get together to decide on a night and a place to have the meetings. Any suggestions? I would be willing to stop in to the class this coming Tuesday or you could just express your thoughts to Bob. He has some thoughts that are worth considering. I think it will come down to how deep we want to get into it and what to expect from it.

I'm in Bob's class too and I had no idea Dave R. was in there. The class is great. You can realy tell that Bob has taught a lot.

It was good to meet you the other night at Bob's class. Keep the idea going for a tying club. Matter of fact send me a personal note. I need to talk to you.

Time - Next monday during monday night football
Trout 4x- you bring the steaks.

I'll bring myself and then we can discuss a date and time to have a "tying" meeting

We are getting real close. We need to beg RAW to come up to one and really teach us something.

I hope it turns out great.

I was wondering if when we get together if we will have a certain fly we will try and learn or how will this work?

That's what we hope to do at some future time. We should know shortly what we are about. Hoping for a December start.

Any suggestions?
