Doug, you like the XP better? I just have not been able to groove with the fast action. I love the SP though.

I like the sp a lot but feel it does'nt protect fine tippets very well. I think the xp is about the smoothest rod I have casted. I have broken my sp about 7 times. It usually breaks at the butt section for some reason. I do like a fast rod. It makes midair line mends much easier.

I haven't broke my 690-3 yet, and have hooked some nice fish on it on the Madison and other waters. I like a fast action for stillwater fishing, but like the medium/fast for dry fly and nymphing. I probably need to have someone show me how to cast a fast action, I am probably not doing it right.
