View Full Version : Island Park
I am looking to take a trip to island park the weekend of Oct 3,4,5,6, or just 4th- 6th. I have a nice cabin to use but am looking for someone to split the ride, food, and maybe depending on where we go fishing looking to borrow a pontoon boat, (I only own a float tube). I can hold my own flyfishing but it would be nice to learn from some of you folks that know fly fishing a little better that myself. Any way this cabin will hold 5-6 guys. This is not set yet, but if your interested Email me.

Norm, you should just come with us on our UOTFly Henyr's Fork trip the weekend before. I think we have one more spot to fill.
Bad timing on both weekends, I wish I could do it that weekend but family stuff takes precidence. I don't get alot of hall passes from work or the wife so I had to jump on this opportunity.
Peace

Just keep advertising, somebody will go. Jason would be a good guide too, he knows the area. To bad your trips don't coinside!
The Henry's Fork there can be a tough piece of water to fish there by Island Park where your at. It's considered by many of us to be 'graduate' water. If you fish it, go to Mike Lawsons and get a few size 8 Henry's Fork Hoppers. On a 3x tippet, try these on Sage Flats access. Some fish there will take attractors like humpies and such too. The Ranch section will just break your heart and tick you off. I caught 6 fish in three days there once this summer. They were big rainbows though. Drive up to the Gallatin, north out of Yellerstone maybe. Wulffs can be the ticket there in the fall. Size 16 royals.-Clete

Avoid the Gallatin at all costs if the weather is stormy. I was not warned and went when it had rained the previous day and it looked like milk and was near impossible to fly fish. I had been warned about rain affecting some rivers up that way, but not the Gallatin.

oh yeah, been a victim myself. Have a alternate plan, like the East Gallatin just out of Bozeman or something. Down by the golf course.......wear your Kevlar, or a bike helmet though. LOL!-Call the 'Rivers Edge' flyshop in Bozeman for tactical info.
Norm has decided to cancel the trip this weekend and go with jason and the fellas on the prior weekend. All in all I am very pleased with my decision and my powers of persuasion in getting a hall pass from my wife.

It's not that big of factor under 300#-------- its how you will haul it- if its in the back of a truck bed- no big deal- if its not a truck
then you have a small problem-------- I have a trailer if you have a way of pulling it- its very light. Personally the Xtreme is the nicer more comfortable boat--------
