The improved yong special that Andy Kim showed me was made out of some REALLY fine V-Rib. Andy said the V-Rib he uses is very hard to find and recommeded I use tippet instead. What Andy didn't tell me was how I am going to get the different colors of pupa using clear tippet. I am assuming he meant either wrapping a certain colored thread base and then wrapping the tippet over that(which would make a cool translucent effect), or possibly dying tippet. So has anybody tried dying tippet? Does it work?

There are mono's out there that are colored- Maxima has a brown and a green- I think Garcia has a brown- Trilene has a yellow. Your other thought of a base color and then mono I think is discussed in the book Midge Magic.
Clear materials (v-rib, mono, whatever) will take on the color of a thread base underneath. I use that technique for a couple of patterns and it works great.

For a really cool effect, use colored Flashabou instead of thread underneath the clear mono/v-rib/larva lace.

Shane Stalcup advertises some micro tubing that can be used for flies as small as 28.

Would that work for you? I have never used his micro tubing, so I cannot speak whether it is good stuff or not.
