Anybody have some good mouse patterns they could share? I've heard late summer and fall are great times to fish mouse patterns in rivers and lakes. Any stories or experiences would be helpful as well.

Right on. Thanks for doing some research for me. I was looking at the flyanglersonline pattern last night. It's very similar to Dave Whitlock's pattern. But, the akflyfisher Articulated Mouse pattern is what I'm looking for. That's a killer pattern. I like. I will definitely be tying some up and trying them out soon. Thanks again.

the way he is tying the articulated mouse makes for a rather large fly.... if I were to tie it I think I would step the size down a couple of hooks so I could cast it easier with a 5 wt.

I totally agree. Probably a size 8 and 6 hook sizes 2-3x long will be perfect. I just got back from the fly shop to get some bass hooks with the straight eye. I hope to tie a few up tonight.
Also, to add to the realism of this fly I will probably add a short tail on it as well. Should be a killer fly.

Go for bass hooks with the larger hook gap. It's a little tight fit spinning hair and shaping the body on standard hooks (my opinion of course). Do you guys think the ears are necessary? I've tied it both ways and like the realistic look. However, I haven't noticed any increased success. Any thoughts?

Well, my first couple mouse patterns I tied up are killer (Articulated Wet Rat). For the rear hook I used a size 8 2x long streamer hook and for the front hook a size 6 3x long streamer/bass hook. They look sweet and float great. I was so excited about this pattern I filled the bathroom sink and tested out my flies at 1:30am last night. I mistakenly left one of the flies sitting out which totally freaked out my wife in the moring. Ha ha.
I bet you can guess what I was dreaming about all last night. For some reason I kept having this slow motion dream where this huge brown would come up slowly to my mouse pattern, mouth wide open (5 inches wide atleast), but my dream kept ending right there so I never knew if I caught the fish or not. That was a damn frustrating dream to wake up from. Ah well, I hope to get out Saturday to cure my insomniac dreams.

I tied a fairly small deer hair mouse on a size 6 2x long hook and am going to try it out tonight (night fishing) on yhe middle. I'll post if it works.

I tried out my patterns on Saturday but didn't have any luck. I only tried them out on a lake so I hope to try the rivers soon. I fished the lake along the shoreline and casted the mouse up near the bank along the heavy vegetation but no takers. My pattern sure looked real though and floats great with the foam.

I had one strike on the small mouse on the provo.... but I think the mouse was bigger than the fish.....
