I was messing with my dubbing tool and decided to tie a caddis for fun. I dubbed the abdomen with deer hair, and then added a Elk Hair Wing and tied it off.

Anyone know the name of this pattern? I used it on the Provo and had a couple hits, thought I would do some checking to see what it is called.

Anyone know?

I also thought about adding some antron dubbing on the top 1/3 to add more to the body for floatation and then another variant of putting it after the wings in a cripple/emerging fashion.

BTW - We need a Fall Fly Swap soon!

Can you post a picture of it?

There is a style of tying and type of flies called "Variants" that resemble nothing you have mentioned. Basically they are a take-off from Catskill type flies with oversize hackle and have no dry fly wing.

I've gotta back Larry S.
Variants are a fly pattern. So you confuse us.

It sounds like youve sort of tied a goddard caddis, by your description.
Where I'm thrown is your terminology of dubbing deer hair.....Did you mean spinning deer hair? Not being critical, just confused. Give us a better FYI and we will fill you in.

You're screen name is SO James Bond like.

Ah, sorry I was thinking one thing and typing another.

1) I spun the deer hair, but didn't trim in in the Goddard Fashion
2) The word 'variant' was meant for the real series of caddis flies

I don't have a digital camera real close, but I have one at my office I might be able to grab - if so, I'll post a picture.
