A couple of weeks ago on Fly Anger's Online, they had this really nice looking, easy to tie, extended body mayfly pattern.

The pattern calls for SLF (synthetic living fibers) dubbing for the thorax, which I am having a hard time finding. Most shops that carry it just have bright colors since it is used primarily for Steelhead flies. I am looking to tie some gray drakes and am looking for some in a medium gray color. Is anybody familiar with this material and know where I can get some? I have found some mail order sources, but the color descriptions leave a lot to be desired.

You might want to contact Western Rivers. I'm pretty sure that they had some SLF a while back in various colors -- some normal! I haven't bought any dubbing in a while though, so I'm not sure what they do or don't have in stock right now.

I happened across some Dave Whitlock's SLF dubbing at Sportsman's Warehouse in Midvale. I know that Davy Wotton of England has a product also called SLF. Any way, give 'em a try.

Thanks for the help. I picked up exactly what I was looking for at the Midvale SW. I had written off SW after stopping at the Riverdale store. It seems like the Midvale store has a much bigger variety of tying material than the Riverdale store. I also tried Western Rivers before posting. All they had was brown colors and had just put in their order with that company which did not include any gray.

Actually, I think Whitlock's and Wotten's are one and the same.
