Hey, has anyone had success with the x caddis? I saw this pattern in one of my books and tied some up. I really like the looks of this fly, and it's very easy to tie. It looks like a good alternative to an EHC, something that will float low and give a little different silhouette. If I have near the success with this fly as I have with the elk hair caddis, that would be great!

I've had a lot of success with the x-caddis, especially in the Yellostone area. I think it was developed in West Yellowstone by Craig Matthews.

The X-Caddis is a great pattern. I've done well with it in all situations. If the caddis are out and they're taking adults on top, the X-Caddis is a great pattern to use. It's also an all around good summer attractor pattern as well. Don't leave home without them.

I'm also an X-caddis fan, especially during a heavy caddis hatch. Eating caddis is hard work for trout, so they tend to go for the stillborns when they can afford to be picky.

My only complaint about the X-caddis: They don't float as easily as other caddis dries.

I don't know why except it doesn't seem to catch fish for me, and it sinks too fast. I really like Mathew's patterns (his Yellowstone book is gold) but for some reason that fly does not like me. Funny how that happens......
