Chat room?

I was just wondering if you have considered adding a chat room to the site. I like bulletin boards a lot, but sometimes it's nice to be able to ask a quick question and get a quick answer or just shoot the breeze a bit. Also, it would be an opportunity for people to share fishing reports with only those that they would like to in the chat room, ask questions, etc, without it being on the board.

Just an idea. I'm not a big chat room user myself, but occasionally I find it nice.

I've been working on writing a real time chat server for some time now actually. UtahOTF members should soon be able to chat in real time via a flash based client. I suspect that I'll have something for people to test out within a month or two with the final, polished product arriving sometime before the end of the year.

The thing that I worry about the most is having valuable information and insight passed through the live chat and not archived for later reading via the forums. If live chat ever started "replacing" posting in the forums, I don't think it would survive for long!

Not to mention the fact that some of us would not be able to utilize this chat room setup due to the dreaded firewall "protection".

fanatic has it right... If you're innovative enough, you can just slip through the old corporate firewall with port forwarding or tunneling. For most users though, this probably wouldn't be an issue.
