View Full Version : Jackson Creeks / Snake River Guides
Any opinions or experience that you guys might have with guides and the various waters around Jackson Wyoming I'd like to know about. I'm probably heading up there in early September and thought I might try to float the Snake or hit some other water in the area!
All opinions and advice are appreciated!

How about Flat Creek through the elk refuge north of Jackson. Has anyone heard anything about it. If I remember right, it opened on 1 Aug. I've had some memorable hopper days on this water in the past. In the early eighties, my dad was the caretaker on a ranch in South Park. Flat Creek, below Jackson, flowed through the property, along with several smaller spring creeks. I was in the Air Force at the time and stationed in Denver Colorado. I took a buddy up there that hadn't ever flyfished. We spent a week one fall. On our way back to Denver, I told my buddy he just as well forget about flyfishing ever again. He could have spent the rest of his life trying and never would have another week to match the one we'd just had. Unfortunately, those hay field in South Park now mostly grow houses. I'm thinking of going to jackson next weekend (23rd-25th). Anybody heard anything, I'd appreciate a note.

Greetings,
Spent a week up there in July. Contact Snake River Angler in Moose. It's a great shop with friendly guys. Floating the snake is tough unless you have a guide. The water moves fast in parts, and painfully slow in others. We caught our largest fish on the Snake, but had almost non-stop action in the feeder streams around the park. Pacific, Crystal, Gros Venture etc.
September is a great time to go. The big fish on the snake will be trying to fatten up for winter.
let me know if you have any more questions....ronlackey@yahoo.com

I was in Jackson in late June and didn't have much success on the gros ventre but I talked to the locals who were at the orvis shop and he told me to go to crystal creek and the fishing there was very nice. I had the most succes on a copper john. The gros ventre is also a very nice river to fish on in the later months. I stay up there every year and really catch some huge fish. I have seen many shows on the flat creek and the amount of fish per mile isn't very great but the fishing there is pretty good. You would definately want a guide for the snake.
