For any of you ever visiting the Tahoe area... You've got to stop at "Fanny Bridge" and check out the rainbows there. The bridge is right below where the water flows out of Lake Tahoe, creating the Truckee River. These fish are PIGS. It's sick. I'm talking about 10 - 20lb rainbows. I've never seen anything like it! You'll see the occasional 17 - 20 inch fish down there and they just look like a total joke! It's totally amazing.

To answer the immediate question that those unfamiliar with the area will surely ask: You can't fish within 1000 feet of the dam! =)

the huge rainbows that hang out below the bridge at Big Springs in Island Park. Bread fed pigs, a couple of which look about 20 pounds. I think they (the fish) even know where the boundary is for the no fishing area!

Pigs....these puppies are more like cows!! I go up there once a year with the inlaws, and I love to hit that spot. Honestly, I could sit there for hours dropping food to them and watching them feed. They are truly beautiful fish. I have often thought that a night time, stealth, dressed in black, face painted, catch and release mission is much needed here. I think catching one of those would be the ride of your life. I have a wife and two young daughters. I wonder how long they could do without me while I was sitting in the slammer for completing my mission......they would be alright don't you think?

One of the old timers I know told me the following story.

A rich man from back east was visiting Island Park and heard tale of the monster fish under the bridge at Big Springs and so he went out there to see them. Upon arrival he decided that he just had to catch a few and so he broke out the rod and reel and started fishing. He was having the time of his life catchin big pig after big pig.... Well the fish and game got wind of him and sent an officer out to ticket him. When confronted by the fish and game officer the rich eastener said "You just count them as I catch them and I will pay the ticket when I am through"

He also told me a story about a guy who ran a line down his pant leg, held the reel in his hand and sat on the rail of the bridge and fished.... pulling fish into his pants legs...........
