Has anyone been to the L.C. Ranch? Is it worth it? They say they have brook trout, are they nice fish?

I have yet to catch a Brookie out of the LC. They are very far and few between. It is about a 60/40 split between Brown and Rainbows (some steelhead strain). Obviously some ponds have more browns and some have more rainbows. The best thing about the LC is that the dry fly fishing is incredible. Chironomids start in good numbers in late march-early April and last well into June. Callibaetis are already hatching in late April and last into late June. The ranch is closed in July and August and fall usually fishes well on terrestrials (hoppers, especially ants, and crickets. Some guys like to fish slow sink lines and fish Denny Rickard type stuff, but rarely do you need to. The average size is not huge (17-22), but they fight real well. Biggest landed on a guide trip was 17 pounds and 35 inches. Backing runs are very common in Dog Dam and Cabin pond (the two largest).

Pretty sweet dry fly action out there too.

I was there about 4 years ago and fished the Cabin Pond and did pretty well. We caught quite a few rainbows on Prince Nymphs just drifting in the wind. The lunch that you get there is great. After that I went to another pond which at the time had browns it. I was sight fishing for them and nailed a 22" brown. If you go up there you have to check out the Elk herds on the ranch. It's something to see. I wasn't told about the Brookies though. Before we launched I walked over to another pond and I have to say there are fish in there pushing 25-28" easy.

I no longer have the site.
There are only a few brookies left around that ranch and the one that are there are outside the gate at the road pond and a couple of others.
Never been in to my backing at LC or anywhere else for that matter. People fish the wrong ponds at LC, best advise dont't get in a tube or a toon while you are there. Find the smaller ponds and walk the edges, sight fishing with a dry or a bead head will do the trick.
Talk to Buddy K. at Sportsmans for the real dirt if you are for sure interested though.

My bad, I didn't notice when this thread was started. I like fish porn, so I was curious what the link was.
