I'd love to go to this I've never fished C.C. res. and would love to give it a try, only one thing holding me back...Old Truck and dont need New payment. I've figured out how to break down my kick boat so it will fit in the trunk of my car but 14 miles of unimproved road my (24 year old 78' Seville I "stole" from the origanal owner with 60000 miles on it) doesn't want to see that road, little ol'lady story. Anyway if anybody would like some company and has some x-tra room I'd split the gas or whatever. E-mail me @ jggjde51@hotmail.com P. S. maybe I'll drive as far as the turn off and just stand in the road with my stuff somebody's bound to have a soft heart for that !!! Just kidding let's go. Doug

I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD TRY AND CARPOOL WITH SOMEBODY THAT LIVES IN YOUR AREA, HELPS ON GAS REDUCES TRAFFIC & YOU CAN HAVE SOMEONE TO TALK WITH.
WORK OUT LEAVING TIMES AND DEPARTURE TIMES SO YOU CAN FISH WITH SOMEONE AS LONG AS YOU WOULD LIKE.
SORRY I LIVE UP NORTH OR I WOULD.

Some people on fishwest have been talking about a "back way" to get to CC (via "Wolf Creek", or something like that, but they are not too clear). Does another way to CC exist, and if so, is it better/easier/shorter?
Anyone know?

As dirt roads go, the road to Currant Creek is actually fairly nice. It gets bumpy in spots, but it shouldn't be too rough on a regular car. Any back way would probably be worse. A carpool is always a good idea. I'd rather sit back instead of drive myself hehe. Say "Hi" to the snakes for me if you fish the stream...I miss 'em already.

and would like to carpool with someone. I could drive to the Salt Lake area (or some other place) and hook up with someone if need be. Unfortunately my '90 Honda Accord has been acting up and as a general rule doesn't do well on dirt roads that require more than 3 inches of ground clearance.
Not only that, but I commute about 85 miles a day with a broken radio so I've used up all of my cool stories and small talk - a drive that far might push me over the edge.

This is coming up next weekend anybody from Ut. County going up ? I could meet you anywhere and would split the gas, mow your lawn the rest of the summer, feed your dogs or whatever it takes. (Don't you hate sniveling) sp? Any way thanks,

Hey Jeff and anyone else looking for the "back way". You can turn up co-oop creek road, it is just about 1 mile (maybe a little less) past the Strawberry Bay Turn off. It is a pretty good road suitable for most cars and is quite a bit faster than going all the way past the berry and up CC. I was there last week and did ok on the Res. did not try the stream but it looked real good. Hope you all have a great time, I will not be able to go due to a trip I have had planed to go to the Manti for a long weekend. Maybe if a lot of people go to CC I will have some of the fishing spots on the Manti to myself. If anyone wants to fish the Manti give fme a holler, maybe we can meet up.

That's gross.
Think I'll camp the night before and sore-mouth everything before you guys get there. Is the camp ground open? I'm leaving from Sandy and bringing an extra float tube and life vest if anyone needs help. (???????)

Sorry guys/gals, I'm been pretty busy and out of town so I've lost track of who's bringing what. Here's the list of what's needed. I'm bringing my gas grill.
-Buns
-Hamburger patties
-Ketchup and Mustard
-Cheese
-Lettus and Tomato
-Napkins,plates,utensils
-Potato Salad

Please post what you're bringing. I think we'll have atleast 10-11 people coming so plan accordingly.
FANATIC, glad you can make it. Let us all know what flies have been working for you on the reservoir. We'll all probably have to stock our fly boxes before we head up there. Gracias.

BTW, looks like we will have some good weather and fishing should be fast and fun. Here's what Fanatic suggested to use for flies:
#8 2X Long Bugger. Yellow (seal sub) dubbed body with Black hackle. Tail was a sparsley tied black/yellow marabou. 20 wraps of .020 lead and a Black Tungsten head. Sinks like a rock.
That and a couple other buggers worked. But had the best success with the Yellow black.
I'll post more details tomorrow or Thursday.

Jason, Would love to go but after talking to some deer hunters that were up that way last weekend I dont think I'll drive my car on that road and it doesnt look like anybody's coming from my area. Anybody coming from the north that has x-tra room ? I could meet you in Heber. Anyway if something changes I'll post. Thanks Doug

OK, looks like everyone that is coming has posted. From my count, there will be about 12 people. Everyone should bring enough for 12 people and a little extra in case a few stragglers show up.
Here's the plan. From what I gather, most of us will be fishing the reservoir in the morning until lunch. Fanatic said fishing has been fast and furious lately using heavily weighted black/gold buggers with an intermediate line until about noon, when fishing slows down. Let's plan on meeting up at the boat ramp at NOON for lunch. Most of us will probably be parking near the boat ramp and launching our tubes/pontoons right there. I think there's a small usage fee. This should be a convenient place for everyone to meet. I'll be driving my red toyota truck and have the grill blazing away at noon. Fishing has been best from 6am to 11am. After lunch we'll probably do some more fishing on the reservoir or on the stream.
FYI, the boat ramp is on the far west side. The fastest and best way to get up there is to take the co-op creek road instead of the traditional road along Currant Creek. If you take the traditional way, you'll have to drive around the reservoir to the boat ramp, which is near the dam. The co-op creek road comes out on the west side so it's quicker. Fanatic said the road is descent right now so we shouldn't have any problems. If anyone has questions let me know. See you all Saturday. FISH ON!

1. I noticed that drinks aren't on the list. Is this BYOB (bring your own beverage)?
2. Since the Mrs. and I have never fished Currant Creek, will anybody help point us the right direction?
3. Anybody alergic/repulsed by sesame seeds?

Yah, let's plan on bringing our own drinks. We should be set on everything else. Like Fanatic said, it should be pretty fun.
Landguppy, send me an email if you need directions to Currant Creek Res. You might want to get yourself a good Utah map anyway. If you have the Utah Fishing Guide I believe they have a map in there to Currant Creek.
This sucks! :(
So this other forum in Cali that I mention from time to time is having a beerfly social saturday also.
Rumors of single fly fishing women!!! ;)
(24th anniversary tonight folks! Its been awhile!)
Guess which one I'm going to?
AAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Neither...are you guys happy?
If so just keep rubbing it in!
Purely kidding of course!
Hey......you guys need to have a tournament and jackpot or something!
The 1st Annual MOKE Wishin He Was Fishin' Cup!
A C&R Contest.
And if Fshfanatic comes off too hard as the lake local....he is forced to consume one pint of Deevine per fish as a handicap.
More pointless ramblings from the MOKE
Have fun and catch one for me!

I think I've got it covered. I have a good Utah atlas, and I think with the descriptions given we'll make it.
On a more unpleasant note, if we don't make it and somebody finds two skeletons in a maroon Corolla two years from now, please notify my parents. Thank you.

08-23-2002, 10:08 PM
Doug,
I will handle that cookies and sweets for all (I only wish I had Mokes secret recipe.....mmm, mmm good:)
One thought, did you include cheese? (no not targee cheese but some nice sharp chedar)
Jason
08-23-2002, 10:16 PM
Sounds good Greg. Cookies or treats sound good. Plan on 13-15 people hopefully. Bring your own drinks. I'm sure Fanatic will bring the beer.
Remember, we're all meeting at the boat ramp on the west side at noon. Get there early if you plan to fish the reservoir because fishing has been HOT lately and the morning hours have been extra HOT. From what I'm hearing lately the co-op creek road is much quicker than the traditional route. If you take that road keep to the right and follow the signs. See you all then.

Jason
08-25-2002, 04:58 AM
Thanks to all that showed up today. We all had a good time but we didn't have any cheese. Fishing was pretty good in the morning and everyone caught some nice Bear Lake Cutts, but we still didn't have any cheese. At noon we all broke for lunch and grilled up some famous UOTFly burgers, but we didn't have any cheese, so no cheese burgers. After lunch a few of us hit some of the smaller streams in the area and had a ball, but again there was no cheese. It could have been an epic day if we just had some cheese. The closest thing we had to cheese were Fantatics farts. ;-) Thanks everyone for coming. It's always good to get together with some UOTFly folk.

Jason-
So, I'm getting the idea that you guys could have used some cheese?
It was about as good a gathering as you could expect without cheese really...

It is sitting in the fridge, I would give you my sob story but you wouldn't care any way.

No biggie 4x, we're just giving you a hard time. Sometimes other priorities besides fishing comes up. You realize that you're never going to live this down. You might as well just get your handle name changed to Cheese4x or something like that.
Trout4x
08-25-2002, 08:08 AM
No problem here, other than I have cheese that needs to be used, so I guess you should plan another one.
Look at it this way, at least I didn't have the meat! You could have been eating grilled cheese instead.
Greg M
08-25-2002, 03:54 PM
Can you believe it, we had a BBQ and fishing expedition without any cheese and we still had a blast.
Thanks Jason for showing a few of us the secret spot in the afternoon, to bad the fishing was slow. Except of course for the 27 inch rainbow that you caught (but no pictures, mmmm...)
One other item, I have to ask if anyone who ate the burgers had any adverse reactions. I woke up at 2 am and had to do the sprint to the restroom and spend the next little while driving the porcelain bus. I am hoping it was only me that ate something bad, not the burgers.
But even with that I want to say thanks for a great day.
Greg M
Greg, bad food and I are soon parted! I was fine and ate 2 burgers (no cheese!).
Details, I'm asking for details.

Send me your addresses and I will mail everyone a couple slices of cheese. This way I will feel better about myself.
Slices of cheese? I think I'll go for a fresh bag of curds from Gossners there in Logan. mmmmm. saltier the better. Besides the curds stay on the hook better than the slices. :)

You get get all nostalgic and your mouth is totally ready for some Cache Valley CHEESE and then...
You're out, the fish aren't biting and you think "at least I have a big 'ol CHEESE burger to look forward to" and then...
Everyone brought enough good stuff to make the most killer CHEESE burger you've ever had but...
You're driving down a washboard road rattling the teeth out of your head and every time fanatic farts you think "That reeks!" -JK he didn't fart (much)
I will put the rest of my thoughts in another thread since I think they belong there.

You know, I was OK with 15 miles of washboard roads rattling screws out of my car.
I was OK with getting nothing on the creek.
I was OK with everybody's attempts to make intelligent conversation.
But when I noticed my burger didn't have cheese on it, that's when it became not OK.
But seriously, fun time, good to meet those of you I didn't know.
