I may be upsetting a few people by informing the internet world that the Ogden river flows are down considerably and just right for fishing, but ................ Anyway, does anybody have knowlege of how the high flows have affected the fish population in this river over the last couple of months?
I noticed the flows were down two weeks ago and thought I would get back to them little fish. I have fished the river at 5 different times in 5 different streatches and caught 1 fish! I know this is a difficult time of the year for us flyfishermen and not catching fish is OK with me but, during these fishing trips coupled with 2 evening of walking the park-way with my wife I have not seen nearly as many fish as I did before the heavy flows. Normally this river is stacked up just about every where you look and now I hardly see any fish.
Mabey I haven't looked in the right places.
Or is it possible that the high flow had an affect? Could less fish be a good thing for this "overpopulated river?"
All I do know is that I don't see the number of fish that I did before the high flows.
Any knowlege, ideas, comments or some "Good ol MOKE rambling" would be nice.
Can't wait till fall!!
I don't know, but if you can't find any other info, contact Lowcountry (Steve at high Country Flies in Ogden). He can probably tell you what's what. Or ask RAW (He's not a bad guy, really).

The Ogden still has the numbers of fish as before. It was a little tough right after they lowered the flows. The fish were still behind rocks and near the banks. Now the fish are back in their usual lays. As of this morning, the water has cleared up and fishing was red hot for the eight to twelve inchers near Rainbow Gardens and the Dinosaur park. It should be good all the way up the canyon now.
Bcsort,
I have seen the floodgates opened on Pineview over the last 25 years or so. The trout seem to fair okay. This is just my theory: When the water drops so fast, I think the trout get a little wary. I think they scramble for hiding places and hide for a little while until they get use to the lower water. I don't know how long this takes. I would imagine hungry trout will have to take a chance and come out to feed fairly quickly. I would think that maybe some of the trout that could not find relief from the raging currents may die off. I think the high water may have actually been beneficial this year...plenty of oxygenated cool water through the heat, and a good cleansing of the river. Trout may have migrated out of the area you were fishing because of high flows, but I would imagine they will migrate back once things get back to normal.
We are entering the dog days too. Fishing has always been wierd in the month of August. Fall should be awesome.
Fred,

I can't respond with anything of any value, because I dont know the river.
I would expect that the rapid drop in water levels has just messed with things.
Get down in the river, and do a siene sampling for bugs. If they are there, so are the fish.

Well I am glad to hear it. I will go up tonight and check it out again, hopefully I will see a few less fish than I did during the spring but more that last weekend.
