Has anyone fished this area of Colorado? I will be spending a week in Pagosa Springs towards the end of July. I would really appreciate any info. Thanks!

What a great area...I visited it last July. There are some great streams that you can wet a fly....my favority by far is Lime Creek, which is a little stream that you hike down into. The trail head is located directly across from Purgatory Ski Resort (which is between Durango and Silverton). The setting of this stream is fantastic and the fish, while not big are wild and aggressive. Plus you can obtain the "Grand Slam" on this stream (catch a brown, brook, cutt, and rainbow) which I did last year. One thing to think about is the fire around Durango. Hopefully it is not this high in the canyon, but I don't know.

Nearer to Pagosa is the Peidra (between Pagosa and Durango). This is also a fantastic stream. It is bigger water than Lime Creek and contains primarily browns. If you fish this river keep an eye out for river otters...I saw one last year and it is quite a sight.

You always have the options of fishing the Animas, which runs right through Durango. And the San Juan, which is only about 1 hour from Durango.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I wish I was visiting the area.

Fish the Piedra, which is west of Pagosa, and let me know how you do (I'm casin' the joint). Be sure to check in w/ the gift shop that sells flies there (along the hwy at the river)and he'll set you up w/ some fast water/deep hole nymphing techniques - which is pretty much the course of action there.
Good luck in Greenieland & remember how Patty Roy choked in the semi-finals. :-)

Thanks for the input, I will definately hit some of the streams the were forementioned. My family actually has a cabin in Pagosa, and if the fishing turns out to be stellar, then I might make more trips to the area. The last I spent any time there was about eight years ago (before I picked up this nasty ffishing habit). But yeah, I will report on how it went when I get back in August.
