I've been reading the info about the Jackson area in the other forums. I am getting exited because we will be floating the Snake just above Alpine this weekend with the whole damm family. I've got to get away and wet a line to keep my sanity. The Grey's sounds like a lot of fun but in looking at maps of the area, it seems like a pretty long drainange. Any advice on the Grey's or any other waters near Alpine would be appreciated. For example, if I fish the Grey's, where would be a good place to start?
Me and my buddy go up every year and camp for about a four days at forrest park, which is about 20-30 miles in, and we fish around in that area, and have a blast.

Several areas up and down the river. I just got back from spending a couple of days about 15 mi up the river. Did great during the evenings fishing for Cuts. Nice looking country the further up you go.

if you fish Greys you catch Snake river cutts.
You can then go up over the top of the drainage towards the winds (thus driving south and then east) and catch a second type of cutt (someone help me here, my memory is dead). Then backtrack to the west and follow the smith and catch bonneville cutts. a trifecta in one day with grins for all!!

I think I will try going in at least 15 miles and spend one afternoon and evening (I wish I could do more). Fishing the three drainages sounds like a great trip though. I fished the Grey's about 6 years ago early in the summer (high water) but only went up about 3 miles from the town of Alpine. I caught two cutts if I remember, both on muddler minnows. One fish was about 8 inches and the other was about 17 inches. I'll let you know how things went when I get back.
Thanks for the replies.

I didn't know about the Cutt trifecta... Might the one down on La Barge Creek be a Yellowstone Cutt? Thats the only other kind I can think of off-hand. I do know that the Bear Lake Bon is a slightly different strain than the Bons we've got out in my neck of the woods, in the Deep Creek Range.
Last year I did real well with a Para hopper in the middle of the day. And in the evening a BHPT with a red brassie as a dropper was a killer pattern. I caught alot of white fish, unfortunately, on the BHPT, so I swithched to a grey scud with the dropper and the cutts were still hitting the red brassie real hard, it was a great time. I am going up there probably the second week of Aug. so let me know how it was. Good luck and have fun.

All this talk is makin me want to head back up, possibly weekend of 19th-21st
During the day they were taking Stimys w/ bhpt droppers. I had 4 hits on the d/s swing. thats the first time that I have ever encountered that particular take. the first one came as a total surprise, was an incredibly strong take, and broke off w/i a nanosecond. That got my attention so I was ready for the others, though I only hooked one on that take. All day long they were workin Stimys. In the eve I switched to a Tarantula (or something to that effect) had immediate success, and then lost my only one!. I then got alittle action on a Goddard. Perhaps the best success was an Adams Trude. Man that was a blast! Those Cutts are strong SOBs.
OK, thats it! I'm goin back up...
Go up as high as you can until you don't see anyone for a bit. Fish attractor type flies with a dropper with a lightweight rod <3 and have a ball. You'll catch a bunch if the ham n' eggers haven't dredged them out yet. I was kayaking on the lower Snaggletooth stretch a few years ago and at the takeout this old dude from Alpine had one of the biggest freakin' cutthroat I had ever seen on a stringer with 4-5 other nice fish. My estimate would be close to 25" and 6-7lbs. They're in there, possibly a lake fish that was spawning and became resident. Palisades Creek will get some fish like that every now and then.

La Barge creek cutts are colorado river cutts...the La Barge creek drainage is scheduled to be poisoned sometime this summer so that the cutt numbers can be improved.
Hey Wyoming 2 can you e-mail me at AI280@msn.com. I woiuld like to hear what you have on the LaBarge Creek. Please.

SUMMARY
Wyoming is home to four species of native cutthroat trout, and the state has instituted a program called "Cutt Slam," that recognizes anglers who successfully catch all four.

Actually saw a show a few years ago when Wyoming started to promote it- I think it was the show with Jon Barrett- anyway they were going for all 4 in one day- just flying around Wyoming.
Personally I did 3 in one full day- 2 out of the Smith Fork and then booked up to the snake for the 3rd. It wasn't worth it - should have just stayed on the Smith Fork or hiked up to Alice Lake.
