I will be in Tempe AZ for a few weeks and I would like to know if there is any decent Fly fishing within an hour of Phoenix. I would like to fish for any Trout (especially Apache) or Bass/Bluegill if there are no trout close. Any info on the area would be appreciated

Senorfish. I wish I could help. Do some internet searches (of course, you probably already have). I will be there for the next two years, at least, so if you do the same later, I will have some info for you. I know there is Oak Creek, but it is at least 2 hours away (from what I have seen).

I believe they have closed the good sections of Oak Creek to fishing this year because of the drought. There are a lot of places to fish for bass around there I can't remember the names of them though. Sorry, it's been a while since I've been back to AZ

This time of year fishing starts to get difficult. First light and after dark is when most of the action is.

Tempe Town lake and the AZ research park are both in Tempe. The salt River lakes and Lake pleasant can be good at first light for SM LM and White bass.

90% of all Forest land is closed due to fire danger. There are a few lakes open on the White mountain Apache Res. Most of the Apache trout water is closed and the closest to PHX is 4 hours +


If you are staying at one of the resorts some of the Golf Courses have great " Afterhours" fishing for Bass, Tilapia and Sunfish. It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission on most of these.
