Jason and Mike and everyone…

I was thinking this morning about the collection of valuable information that the old UOTF data base contained (gear, tactics, flies, where and when to fish…) and I thought that perhaps we could put together from our collective experiences a "UOTF Recommendations" list or database of products, tactics, and favorite fishing spots… (no one needs to give away their secret fishing hole…) so as new members come online or as the old-timers have new questions and inevitably ask the same questions that have been answered numerous times, that we would have somewhere to refer each other for a list of opinions on a given question.

Take Stillwater sinking lines for instance. I know that that question has come up at least a half dozen times and usually the same folks offer their opinions over and over… If there was an alphabetical forum where we could add our two-cents worth on any given subject that would perhaps be a useful tool or database for everyone.

You as the administrators could provide the genesis for a list of topics (which of course would grow as needed or as requested) and we as the participants could add our applicable comments into the categories in which we have some knowledge or expertise. Pretty soon there would be an important catalogue on just about every facet of our sport from knots, to leaders, to flies, to casting techniques, to fly lines, to fly boxes, to float tubes, to nets, to reels, to Stillwater, to nymphing in rivers… I think you get the picture.

Let me know what you think.

Jeff

That's a good idea, Jeff. Archive them, and pull them up with keywords. Hope Mike and Jason have the resources to do this.

Since there is a Fly Tying file could there also be one for Equipment?

I'm all for putting the UtahOTF "information database" on the list of things to do. I guess to start, we'd just need to compile a list of topics and their accepted answers! As Jeff mentioned, the stillwater sinking line question is probably the best example (that I could think of) of a question that comes up a number of times a year. I mean there are other more common questions of course, but I don't know that there's ever much of a consensus answer to many of them. I suppose in that case we could simply list the varying opinions and answers and let people decide for themselves... How does that sort of thing sound?

Mike,

Yes that is exactly what I intended. We would have a data base for participants to add their "two-cents" worth on any given topic and then the reader can review numerous opinions on the subject.

Before long, I think you'll end up with a very comprehensive library of fly fishing topics and opinions from guys who spend a lot of time on the water.
