I have to head to be in twin falls on the 10th for a show I have never been there before so I don't know anything about the area. Is it worth trying to fish anywhere there? Where would be a good place to be and would it be worth it to stay the whole weekend? Any help would be great guys.
Thanks,

So I am trying to see where the big lost flows and I am having a hard time seeing that. It also looks like its pretty far. I would like to stay closer if possible. Or hit something on the way. I drove over the Malad river last time I was up that way and that looked like it could be decent but way down that canyon I don't know how worth it it would be to hike down there.

i stayed in mackay and fished below the res. but have seen some good fish come from above the res.

Go down in the canyon and fish the pond by the Golf Course. If anyone runs out to shoot you just tell them Larry, Ouzel or Royal Wulff said it was OK.

Seriously I was down there 10 years ago at a business conference and somehow ended up fishing it late one evening while everyone was sitting in front of a big screen watching the JAZZ VS the BLAZERS. I was told later that the wasn't in my best health interests

Twin Falls is only 75 miles from Silver Creek. There are some decent reservoirs in the area but they can be drawn down to the channel during drought years. We lived in Twin Falls for a year but didn't get out to fish much due to work and severe drought conditions. I don't know much about Owyhee River but Curtis Fry does. I think that water is not too far from Twin Falls/Jerome area.

Rock Creek up behind the magic valley hospital can be fun, the Wood River over in Sun Valley and its tributaries would be way fun. Plus the cottonwoods and aspens would make a nice back drop in the fall.

I lived in Twin Falls for a good portion of my life. The best in the area would have to be Silver Creek. You can drive there in about an hour, and it's truly world class. The Big and Little Wood Rivers are in the same area and also very good, with more water to fish. As mentioned, the Big Lost is good, but a bit far.

There are also some good streams in the Hagerman valley (30 minute drive), like Billingsley and Riley Creeks. The Malad River empties into the Snake around that area as well, and as I recall has some pretty decent fishing, but I haven't been there in a long time.

Also, as mentioned Rock Creek actually runs through town and has many areas to fish.

However, if you're going to fish anywhere in that area, I'd say Silver Creek. It's a true spring creek with amazing hatches, and amazing fish. Some are very large. However, it can be very, very challenging.

Oh yeah, if you're going to fish the Malad River, don't hike down the canyon (sketchy!!). Just drive into Hagerman Valley, and go up the mouth of the canyon from the Snake River. There's a road that goes up the canyon to the dam.

above Ketchum/Sunvalley about 6 miles. Used to be one of my favorite spots, but 30 years and a lot more population have made the area pretty much a put and take fishery for 13" rainbow. About 90 miles from Twin.

The Big Lost is quite nice in the fall. I prefer the 2nd access below the dam fishing up. About 135 miles.

Closer than that try the South Fork of the Boise below Anderson Ranch or Featherville at 100 to 130 miles.

Silver Creek is definitely the closest "destination" at about an hour. Though there are other locations on the Bigwood at about that distance below Bellevue.

Check out this article from The Drake. It might give you some ideas of non-traditional water to hit in the region.

Near Twin Falls in the town of Hagerman (approx 20 miles) there is the Clear Lake Golf course. The course maintains a pond that is fed by a small stream. You have to pay to fish on the course, but It does not cost much. The last time I was there was 3 years ago and it cost me $10. Hagerman sits in Idaho's Bananna belt, and Clear Lake seldom if ever freezes over making it a very desirable location later in the year. The club house is approx. 300 yards from the pond and has decent food. There is nothing like wandering away for burger and brew in the middle of days fishing. If I remember correctly since Clear Lake is a private pond you do not need an Idaho Fishing Liscence to fish there. If you decide to head that way look the course up on google and give them a call.

You will definitely catch fish in Clear Lake, however, it's directly adjacent to one of the largest trout hatcheries in the world, and benefits from "accidental stockings". Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to get into fish, and a great place to learn/teach to fish. It's just not the most challenging water in the world. So if you're looking for wild trout water, I'd stick with some of the above mentioned water (Silver Creek, Big Wood, Big Lost, etc).

Also, Clear Lake is not really in Hagerman. It's about 10 miles due north of Buhl, ID, down in the canyon.
