I will be going to Sacramento the last part of October. Has anyone fished the American River or the Sacramento. I will be staying on the American River. Any information would be appreciated.

I once flew out to california and fished the american river for king salmon as they were coming up to spawn. There were a ton of people and we used heavy spinning rods. The run wasn't really big that year but when you hook into a 20# salmon it is a really fun fight. I believe they close the fishing down on Nov 1st so we fished the last weekend in October hoping to hit the biggest part of the salmon run. Good luck!

I would say make the drive to the coast. Redwood national forest and the Smith, Klamath system up in to Oregon or the Trinity. I would not fish in sac-a-tomatos unless that is all you have time for. If that is the case there is a park entrance right off of 99 that usually has a fair amount of fish. You can also drive through some of the neighborhoods and park in the dirt fields along the river almost all of the way up to the dam. The closer to the dam the more combat fishing you will encounter.
The Feather is up the freeway and was a good place to visit right up to thermolito along the Oroville wildlife refuge. That is a good cast and blast weekend spot.
Take thick skin with you, you will need it.
