View Full Version : Fort Hall Bottoms
Fort Hall Bottoms in Idaho on the Indian Res.
Does anyone has any info and would like to share it with me? I a willing to trade info if you would like. If it's a trade please don't send me a bunch of stuff off the web since I have searched extensively. I would like some first hand information.
Thanks in advance,
Nick
I have Always wanted to fish this place. Last time I taked to them you have to send a copy of your DL and the days you would like to fish and they will send a permit. I think its $25.00 a day. If you ever want to go let me know. I know they give yearly permits to hunt this for waterfowl also but they are very pricey. May want to fish it before people are shooting at birds. Anyway thats all I know.

Norm,
Thats about what I hear from everyone. I'm not afraid so maybe I'll just do a recon mission.

Would you mind emailing me and telling me about how it was or what you thought the few times you fished it?

One of my buddies grew up in Blackfoot and has told me all about it. He said there are some good fish in there but it is covered in garbage and isn't the most pleasing place to fish. He also said that some of the indians don't particularly care for the white boys coming on there and fishing their water. Take it for what it is worth, that is just what I have been told from one of the best sources I know.

I have fished it quite a bit up until this year. Had an annual permit the last 3 years previous. Email or call me and I will spill the beans, it is not all everyone thinks it is cracked up to be.

I fished it once a few years ago. Got completely boned on the license, but you got to expect that. The water was OK in areas, completely cattle-trod in others. For the most parts, its pretty froggy and deep/unwadeable in places. Several locals were chucking everything short of dynamite in some of the holes, and it got tough to find water. We did see and catch some decent fish though. Trash everywhere unfortunately.....
We went in July and didn't get there until about 11 am. I looked over along the banks and the back sloughs were just completely covered with Trike spinners. Clearly missed something epic earlier, but we still saw some PMD's and a couple drakes and generally had a good time. Glad I did it once, but I'm really in no hurry to get back at this point. I agree with Tighty-it's not all its been built up to be and is not even close to the Livingston and Bozeman area spring creeks that I had in mind before I went there.

the Portneuf through the bottoms below the Pocatello Airport. Good water with some structure and a decent float. Hardly ever sees any pressure.

Is that water big enough for a boat?

Kick boat yes. Drift boat.... maybe. There are a couple of points where you can take out at (if I remember correctly, it has been years since I've played down there) without having to go clean out into the reservoir. Not really accessible without a boat as there are a lot of froggy water areas with soft silt bottoms, but there is also some decent riffles and structure some areas.
One more edit. Res permit is $30.00 I am hearing the fishing is good down there right now. You take out on the road overlooking the river at the end of government road.
