I have recently purchased three different rods from this manufacturer. a nine foot five weight, and eight and a half foot five weight, and an eight foot four weight. I really bought them because they were cheap ($79 at sportsmans warehouse), came with a lifetime, unconditional warranty, and were very nice to look at. I figured, what the hell, they will be good back up rods if nothing else. Well, I was wrong! I have fished with all three of them and I must say that they are VERY nice. The five weights are both faster action rods and throw nice tight loops and cut through wind like nothing. Very sensitive when having a fish on. The four weight is a medium action and I am about to get myself in trouble. I have had a Winston WT rod before and this four weight rogue feels exactly like the winston did. The casting is a dream on this rod and for a HELL of a lot less money. All of the rods are well appointed as well. They come with hard chrome snake guides, matte gray blanks, SWEEEEET looking cherry red wood inserts and chrome reel seatings and end caps. They dont come with a tube but that is a small sacrifice for a rod of this caliber for that price. These rods are being closed out to make way for the new rogue series and they were $250-350 before. If you want another rod, I would DEFINATELY say to go and get one of these. I personally am going to go after the seven foot three weight next.

For 79 bucks I am seriously interested in looking into these Rogue rods. Do they have models that break down into 3, 4, or 5 pieces? I ask because I need to invest in a rod that I can take with me on backpacking treks into the mountians. Which rod would you recommend, a four weight?

Thanks,

They have some that are three piece. They are $99. I like the 4 weight but it wouldnt be a good all around rod as I doubt with a lot of wind it would cut it. It has a sweet soft feel. The five weights are quicker. You can check them out though. They will let you cast anything there. Good luck.

I bought a Rogue 7' 6" 4wght 2 piece. I was looking for a small stream rod at the time and looking to spend some money, when I seen them at Sportsmans, what caught my attention first was the looks, beautiful rods. The price made me question the quality so I tried casting it, I liked it, but didn't purchase instead went to a few different fly shops and casted some other more expensive rods. What convinced me to buy the Rogue was I couldn't tell the difference between it and the Orvis TLS 7' 11" #4 other than the price. And like Curtis has pointed out there very sensitive with a fish on and fun to play. I use a Redington 3-4 GD series reel with it and have found that it is balanced perfectly. I've been very pleased with this rod and would recommend it.
