I am going to head out and buy a new line this weekend and I am thinking of the airflo ridgeline. Is there anywhere that lines are going to be less expensive? I am not dead set on getting that line it just sounds good. I have a wonder line on my 4 wt. and that line freaking blows ass. I don't know the first thing about fly lines all I know is that when I bought my wonder line it wasn't a sink tip and now it is.. Piece of mother F.... sh.. I may as well have just taken a huge crap on the reel and used it. anyway, any suggestions would be sweet. Thanks guys. I am trying to keep it under $50.

Is your 4wt a fast action rod? If it were me I would go with the Rio Grand for the additional 15 bones. I've heard that the Ridgeline has the same issues as the Wonderline............tip sinking.

Whoops my bad I should have specified I am getting it for my 5wt. I just know what I don't want by what I have on my 4wt. I will nab a new line for the 4 wt. and will keep that in mind Pat when I do. that will be a little later in the summer when I really head out to the small stuff. I have my reel with nothing on it and I am supposed to take my bro in law fishing pretty soon (first time fly fishing) and I don't want him to use my 4 wt. What lines do you guys use that stay floating? I hate it when it sinks.

Can't help you with the where, like good fly rods, you are probably going to have to cough the "going rate" on any premium line.

That being said, several years back I switched a years-long allegience to Cortland 444 and lazer and went to SA Mastery series and I will never go back. I can get 2 years plus out of their line without any appreciable deterioration. You're gonna have to cough up more like $60, but you won't be disappointed with the performance.

Alex, just so you know also, if you get a double tapered line use one end for a year and flip it around and use the
newer end the following year......just a thought to save on some costs.

you know mick, if you wrote a little longer stuff and talked about your beer drinking trips, fat lazy girlfriends, and getting thrown in the pokey occasionally you would be another minivan. I miss minivan, i guess there is no computer access in federal prison.

I would just get a good cortland or SA line.

Yeah, that guy definitely added some color to the site. I saw him from a distance on a Southern Idaho res late last fall so he's probably about 8 months or so into his latest jail stint

I dont' have any fat lazy girlfriends, I only have one girlfriend. :) Federal prison..... Yikes! what the hell did he do?
Do you guys personally fish with these lines you are recommending?
Turn the fly line around hmmmm, thats a good idea why didn't i think of that?

I fish the ridgeline, sa mastery, and few Rio lines, although I don't have the gold, overall you can't go wrong with any but I would give the edge to Rio lines overall. The ridgeline casts very well, but I have noticed the tip slightly sinking, and it seems to get a little stiff in cold temps.

well time to head to ebay and pick me up a line. two people have ousted the airflo so no go on that yo. I spent a weekend sentence for a drunken fiasco up in Jackson and that is enough for me. I coudn't imagine going to jail for years of my life. Blah... He seemed like he would be an educated person, meaning he wrote well, even if you didn't like his writing due to profanity and outlandish negativity, and if you're going to a federal prison usually indicates a white collar crime which those usually take a little bit of thinking to pull off.
Who know's maybe I am a recycled mini.

Just a guess, but I'm quite sure Royal wasn't being serious about him being in Fed prison? Now some county jail somewhere is another story???

I fish with cortland lines because I get them dirt cheap, I have never noticed that the tips sink because I am always catching fish :-)

60.00 dollar fly lines, reminds me when I took my kid to this coffee shop with the hot little woman yesterday. He says dad can I have some orange juice, I say sure. I tell the woman behind the counter I would like one of those small orange juices you sell, she says sure and rings up $3.50 and I think she made a mistake. I ask is that right???? She says yea its Naked brand and thats expensive. I ask her were the pickers or the squeezers naked or is the cashier suppost to be naked because $3.50 is steep for everyone to be wearing clothing. She ducks her head and I tell we would gladly take the other orange juice because well it is just orange juice.

There are a bazillion other crimes that will get you in federal prison that have nothing to do with white collar crimes. With that said, I can tell you another piece of poop on a reel to stay away from no matter what.....Cortland Lazer Line. There isn't a more worthless P.O.S. line on the market if you ask me. Your classic 444 would be a fine line. I've heard great things about Rio and I have the Grand on my 5 wt....but haven't fished it yet as the sinking line has been getting the reps lately.

I am interested specifically in what line your using and how many day on the water it has. I have 4 lines that are shot to hell in less that 8 months.

You are just going to have to face the facts Bry. You fish waaaaaaaaaaaay more than 99% of the people out there! They just don't make F/V rated gear ; )

That's not the point..... the point is my lines are POS and I was thinking that I needed to clean them or add some after market line product. But seeing that post made me think that line's are all junk and maybe I am getting the lemons.... like all of them

I've found that one of the best ways to get a new fly line--free of charge--is to buy a new fly rod at full retail. ;)

I put the ridgeline on my line this spring and it has cast very well, it does seem a little stiff, but my complaint is the sound the line make when it goes through the guides. It makes alot of racket.
