I went to a field and practiced casting a 10-weight in a field behind my house.
I need to practice a LOT more before my bonefish trip.

Does anyone have any advice on how to cast one of these monsters? I am find the transition from my 5-weight to the 10 VERY difficult.....

Thanks in advance.

practice when the wind is blowing the hardest (like during the canyon winds in logan) because that is when it really matters to practice. Practice double hauling into the wind, if you can do that you can cast anywhere. After a few days your arm will harden up. Use your forearm and not your wrist to cast larger rods or you wont last long and your wrist will hurt really badly. Get one of those dudes from cabelas to come and help you a little. Or come

They are Hawaii bonefish. The guide told me to bring a 9-wt.
I only have access to a 10......

Go target some carp with the 10 wt. Get out and fish it! What could be better practice than that? How long till the trip?

Plenty of time to get comfortable with the rod. You could also go to any of the community fishing areas and just cast.

10 o'clock ~ 2 o'clock, 10 o'clock ~ 2 o'clock. The power comes from the upper legs, bypass the squezee ball jesse & get a Thigh Master. Power squats will help with the accuracy. A good pair of hi-top sneakers will get you from fish to fish.

Cast a 12 wt all day, the ten will feel light.

no difference in casting a five wt or ten. learn the double haul, or you will drive your guide nuts. i'd opt for an 8 over a ten, if you dont have a nine.

Now that's funny. I was thinking about tennis elbow but Grizz you are FFF certified no doubt! Are you also one of those torn tanktop guys that walks around the gym in search of females that need spotting? ;)
