Trout4x

I am thinking of starting a Nymph swap for your favorite Utah River, Green, Provo, Weber, Blacksmith Fork etc. I am open for suggestions on max # of people. 10, 15 or 20.

Please let me know or is interested, if you are new to a swap please ask questions doesn't matter how good you are either.
Just have fun.

I would be interested, but I have never been involved in a swap, what do I need to do

Trout4x
06-11-2002, 10:20 PM
Choose what fly you want and depending on how many we decide to include you will make for example 20 flies of the same, mail them to me, then in return you will get one fly from each entry back having a whole new assortment of flies.

bner
06-11-2002, 10:25 PM
then count me in

I would like to join in. Let me know the details.

Trout4x
06-11-2002, 11:07 PM
The first few to join can help decide how many people they want in, or how many flies you want to ty.

I wouldn't mind 15-20.

I am going to ty a Blood Head Disco.

I tie a wooly bugger pattern that I use often on streams and rivers that is fairly unique (I have never seen it for sale). I usually tie it in a size 8. Would that qualify?

Greg M
06-12-2002, 03:15 PM
I would be interested in doing this swap, my fly would be a tungsten bead head ph. tail. I have tore it up with this fly at any time of year on just about any stream.

Greg

Trout4x
06-12-2002, 03:20 PM
I don't have a problem with letting a wooley bugger in, its not really a nymph but hey if it is as good as you say. As long as nobody else has a problem with it.

Let's cap it off at 20 entries.

Those that are going to enter please post the nymph you are going to select, first come first choice.

nhancock
06-12-2002, 03:47 PM
I am in with a small bugger pattern. I tie it on a size 8 nymph hook so it is pretty small for a bugger but big for a nymph. I don't want to give to much away. It's a fly my uncle came up with and it works well. After the swap I will post the recipe.

I will join if you don't mind me tying an extremely simple fly that has been very successful for me lately...I have mentioned it in some other posts....It is basically a zebra nymph tied Yong-Special style...if everyone doesn't object to the tying of such a simple fly count me in...BTW, the reason I want to tie this fly is I think that other tyers will really enjoy how simple, but effective it is.

I have a nymph that has been simply phenomenal on the Provo lately. It is a version of the hare's ear that I call the Wood Duck Special. Any time there are PMD nymphs active, this thing REALLY cleans up! I am not sure exactly how a swap works, so I would appreciate some info.

Let say you have 15 people who enter, you will tie 14 of the same flies unless you want to tie one more for yourself.

Then everyone that has joined will mail all flies to me, and then I will sort out one of each of the flies and mail them back to everyone. You will receive 14 diff. flies from everyone.

I am heading up Mirror lake highway tomorrow and will think about what fly I will tie. It been far too long since I have been fishing. My wife and I had our first child 3 months ago and so I am a bit more tied down lately.
Is it alright if it's a streamer or an emerger, or do you want to keep it a pure nymph swap?

with a Northern Cali....Classic. The Birds Nest. Is something from out of area acceptable? I consider this fly a "Hoover" fly. It regularly fools unsuspecting fish, and isn't in everybodies box. Or maybe a Palomino Midge Soft Hackle.

I've never been in any swap before, so fill me in on the expectations of size,....yada yada yada....etc.

Anyone have a preference to a fly?

If your still needing participants in this swap I'd like to join. I have a unique Midge pattern that I tye in size 22-24 using dyed porcupine quills and a dubbed head and two small wings made from crinkled pearlescent flashabou. This is my # 1 pattern for the Provo, Green and San Juan when the fish are being finicky. Again, I'd like to join in if your still taking names.

Thank You.

Sorry guy's,

As I said in a message to Trout4x, sat down to tie the flies over the weekend, got through about three flies and couldn't find any more bead heads. Knowing that I had recently purchased a package of tungsten head I started to go through my gear. (remember the post on your worst fishing nightmare, mine is not being able to find what I know I have, starting to experience that here)

After much searching I learned that my 4 year old had run off with the tungsten heads, they are now interspersed with the rest of the "dress up" jewelry.

So now I will have to hit sportsmans warehouse again (wife hates it when I do that) and starting tying the rest. I will follow-up and get those to you after the 4th holiday.

Enjoy,

Greg M
