All of my flyrods are either 5 wt or 5/6 wt. But I am planning a probably once in a lifetime trip to Alaska this summer. I just orderd an 8 wt combo for this trip. So what do I do with it after. Do any of you flyfishers use an 8 wt around here and if so what for?

You could always chase some carp, bass, wipers, pike, etc.

Last year I put some serious bend in my 9 wt on tiger musky and lakers in Utah... The 9wt was none too big.

I really don't know yet. I think it will depend on when we go. I am still waiting to see what my son decides to do with his life once rubgy is over and after graduating from the "U" and comissioning in the Guard in a few weeks. We would be on "Prince of Wailes Island" and have access to a small fishing boat for salt water and lots of steams.

I'll be headed back up to prince of wales island next summer! Not sure if you have been before, but, be sure to take a pontoon plane at least one direction... Its a beautiful flight in a small little plane!

I use my 8-weight on windy days hucking streamers as well - even on smaller fish, it helps battle the wind....
