Cheech,
What colors are you tying these days? I have used the red and yellow on the flash point hooks from last year, but wondering if there are other colors you have had more/less success on.
Can you give me a list of color combos I can choose from, please?

I also tied a few up the other day some 14's and 12's. Do you tie any bigger than that or keep them around that size? I was also thinking of a good yellow sally type pattern maybe yellow with a red midsection and tail? What about a pattern that could cover both pmd's and yellow sallies at the same time? Any ideas would be great.

The Grumpy Frumpy comes in an array of colors and sizes. I have a BWO, PMD and a #24 midge (one left)
Various colors found here.

The top two are the yellow floss body with a red band and brown hackle, and the peacock body chartreuse band and adams hackle.
I mess with the colors a lot. There is a brown and yellow that is good. An olive and chartreuse that is good. There are a lot of interchangeable parts to it so I experiment a lot.
I fish them mostly in a #14 or #12. A #16 brown and green cleaned up during caddis.

you should change the name to "thingamafloater" ;-) j/k. I was blessed & received one of these recently, I'm excited to find a useful place for it.......like under a willow, behind a boulder or blasting down some fast white turbulant flow.
nummy.

Cheech,
Let me just say that I love the Grumpy. I can't wait to get out and really fish it and see how my own feeble attempts to tie them turn out. What colors and sizes do you use for the BWO and PMD versions? I am honestly going crazy over this fly...Any pointers on tying them as cleanly as you do?

For the bwo I like an 18 to 20 with an olive band and a dark olive body. For the pmd I fish an 18 with a yellow body and a brown band. One trick is to tie the complete fly without the band or rubberlegs. Then reattach the thread to make the band and tie in the legs.
I'll be teaching the grumpy at the seminar I'm doing at the wasatch expo.

Which day will you be doing the seminar at the expo? I missed you at the ISE (got to talk to Curtis and see the bungy buzzer, though). I sort of figured that the best way to attach the band and legs was to tie them in last, thanks for the clarifications.
